Being a rocker/blueser/player whole my life (53 now), I found myself very surprised preferring your jazz lessons over "how to rock like SRV" or "doran/lydian scales" videos. It's your fault that i now jazzify all my licks with 9ths and 13ths and cool diminished progressions :) Pitty I doidn't discovered your channel earlier. You opened to me completely new world and perspective with those easy to digest jazz standards. Keep up the good work Sandra. Looking forward to your lessons, take care about yourself. Greetings from Sarajevo/Bosnia!

Wow! Greetings from Zambia! As is always with you Sandra, a great and fabulous lesson. I like how you have really raised the bar for online guitar lessons/teaching. A couple of days ago, a friend of mine, now based in Finland whom I had introduced to this channel thought I was exaggerating about your teaching style. Being female herself, she had remarked, 'Oh! Chi Chi...' as she fondly calls me, '...maybe you are just infatuated with her'. But today, because of your style of teaching, she wants to buy a guitar again by the end of March. Used to jam with her while I was at School in Frankfurt for my MSc studies. Will keep practicing this as our movements have been greatly restricted. It is a special gift to 'kill' the boredom at home. Yah Bless...much love! One Love!

Another excellent tutorial!! Many of these chords I remember from my Mickey Baker Jazz books from years ago which makes it easier to follow. I am glad that you finger picked on this session, as I quit using a pick years ago. Finger picking, in my opinion, is a more intimate relationship with the instrument and allows more tonal variations. Thank you so much!!! You are an amazing instructor!!
@GuitarversumSandraSherman4 жыл бұрын
I'm not much of a fingerpicker. But I thought, since many beginners prefer it, they would relate more. But I agree, you are touch better with the guitar. I actually play hybrud puckibg and hold my pick on the front of the tio. To the surorise of many students, I am always in contact with the strings. I want to feel them. That's the Nr. 1 mistakes I see - holding the pick not close enough to the tip.

Dear Sandra, thank you for all the great lessons. You are a master and your method of teaching is very easy to follow. For this particular one I have a problem with matching up with the melody (or lyrics). You said, in the first 8 bars of the song, the last bar (Cm7 C7) was where the lyrics goes 'in other words'. But from what I can find in the score sheet 'in other words' actually is in bar 9th. Am I missing something ? I'd appreciate it very much if you could give some anchor points where the chords fall into the melody. Thanks again.

Very informative tutorial for someone -- like me -- trying to get into jazz after years of playing other types of music. One question... why is the 7th in the G7#5 flat? Isn't the 7th of G F#? In this chord, it's an F. I'm somewhat of a newbie to theory, obviously, and this threw me off a bit. Thanks so much!
@GuitarversumSandraSherman4 жыл бұрын
It's a dominant chord. They occur on the 5th degree of the major scale and always have a b7. The 5th degree G7 is from the C major scale, and it has sn F. The #5 is an alteration to create more tension and belongs to a completely different scale. Hooe that helps.
