Hell yeah!! Been playing for a LOOOONG time and took a break for a while. But, getting back into it, I find so many of these youtube "experts" are just boring. This is perfect. Get some good licks going and work on it from there.

Thank you for the video, Troy. This is the first of your videos I've seen, and as I'm coming back to the guitar after many years, this will definitely help me get back in the groove. Just thought of something after I left my comment. I really liked the way you have the tabs move as you are demonstrating these licks. I haven't seen anyone do that in these types of videos, but it helps me out seeing the movement.

Take this excellent lesson a step further. Make up your own licks using this as influence and inspiration. If the lick is major, make it minor to start. Then go from there. Start slow it won’t sound good slow but get it under your fingers then speed it up. Get creative!!!

Hey, do you purely think in intervals? Or combination of shapes and intervals? Judt learned the caged system and am workimg on intervals every day, and i am starting to question if i should purely focuse on intervals, as i suddenly can play diagonally without having to know which scale shape i am in.. if i switch to scale shapes, i suddenly have no idea if i am on the 3.4.5. Or whatever interval, so i lose the ability of knowing what i am actually doing melody wise, when i have not memorised a lick on that position. On the other hand, playing only intervals i feel like i can not see many frets ahead, i have to sort of take each note as they come along, but at least i know which note i am on and not just what scale shape.
@troydownwardmusic4 ай бұрын
It’s a little bit of both for me, depending on the context. If it’s faster rock stuff it’s shape based, where as more melodic blues material is interval based. Ultimately it because a life of what I want to hear though, rather than aiming for certain intervals. It is also visualised using triads and chord shapes so the caged system is super handy!!
