One of my favorite more hidden gems in Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Leonardo FlyTheMaddog MD-80 is bar none my favorite jetliner to fly! It has so many unique qualities and it really keeps you on your toes! Along with that, the MD-80 was my favorite plane to fly in IRL- seat 31A was an avgeek's dream.

Very good tutorial. Just be careful with the slats retraction since is very easy to forget the last move of the slats/flaps lever. As per the accuracy of your cockpit prep flow, I’m pretty sure that you simply forgot to kill the slat/flap light. As I’m totally in love with this aircraft, from time to time I use to watch some tutorial to keep the loop. I do the cockpit prep pretty similar to you ;) and yes, one of the very few downsides of the maddog is the FD cross bars inaccuracy. What I use to do is fly the plane manually until 6 or 7.000ft/250kt, set a “direct to” on the CDU, hit again the VNAV button on the MCP and finally, turn the AP on. By then the FD cross bars are perfectly aligned with the VNAV and LNAV trajectories and that unrealistic nose up jump will not occur. Thanks for the tutorial ;)

Btw I don't know if you know that besides changing it to pounds in the load manager (which requires two different areas to change) but you have to make sure you go into customization in the msfs main menu after clicking the maddog and make sure that the tail numbers are blank and press enter...it will fix it and change it to pounds in the sim

What's ART, and at what point can I arm the autobrakes for landing? Do I have to wait til the gear's down? If so thats annoying AF.

Great video! I'm currently flying the 737-600 and was looking at what my next airliner should be. I think I'll stick to the FenixA320 until I feel more comfortable flying an older plane. (I use a career manager app)

I did! I struggled at first because I don't have legacy controls, but I figured out middle mouse click changes to manual mode, and right click changes back to managed mode. I do love how easy it is to import my simbrief flight plan.

Thank you for your beautiful training videos. In Maddog, my plane stalls at 40 flaps during landing. When I put it on autopilot during takeoff, the plane loses altitude even though nav and vnav are on.

Program FMC properly and don’t go too slow on landing!

As far as I know, the nose-down on takeoff after engaging the AP happened even in the real MD80! Just hand fly it a bit more until you are climbing a bit, and not in a turn.

Not sure what im doing wrong, during takeoff the plane will shut down completely, first one engine then the other one, any ideas?

Hmm…I’m not sure. I’ve never come across that issue before. Are you pushing the throttle to max, or using the auto throttle for TOGA? I know it’s been a few months, I hope you got it sorted! Thanks for watching!
