Maybe this could almost be called an anti-Clouser? Your tying method seems a lot more efficient than that of the UK tyers I’ve seen tying the Booby. I’ve never fished this fly. Have you had much success with it?

Haven't fished it either but plan to. I'm sure it will work. I like the description " Anti-Clouser"

Wrong foam. It will water log. I’ve made that mistake. Buy the Rainey’s eyes. Or some closed cell foam. This is a false economy.

I think if these take water they will still do the job , but I'll look for better foam in the meantime. Thanks.

Rainys works. If you fish a booby on 4 ft of leader to catch late season spawning trout, thus fly will end up water logged on the bottom rather than suspended. Raineys is expensive but its a false economy since i have spent the time and money to take the time and money to go fish and drive somewhere etc.

Using a sink tip line and short leader is the way to fish this, you might even put some weight on the leader a few feet from the fly. Remember it's made for lake fishing the fly will rise from the bottom.
