Back in 1982-83, I was in Oregon, transitioning from Airplanes too Helicopters. And I also had my 8'6" Orvis "Limestone" with me, can't go without fishing. I needed some hooks and so I when to Kaufmanns Streamborn and Randall was tying Stimiuators. I bought some, I still have a few that I never fished and he showed me how to tie them. It's too bad they are gone now. Back then the idea that you will be able to buy a saddle hackle and with one feather tie a dozen flies was unheard of then, But Whiting made it possible. We are regardless of what some may think living in a golden age of fly tying and fishing. Gee's I was just 27 years old, and I just started tying a fly that Doug Swisher came up with, Madam X he even sold me the rubber legs. And a fly nobody even tie any more The Ugly Rudamus! I had such a blast between the flying and the fly fishing that can get had in Oregon. Came back next year to fly on Mount St. Helens it was still a mess then and geologist was doing a lot of studies! Ron Fisher Helicopters Albany, OR. I learned to fly rotor-wing in Albany and Lebanon, OR. Bell 47G3b-1. It's 38 years go. And I guess with the current going on, I am now retired.

This and your orange body version will fish well on the rivers out here in the western U.S. Just received your new book from my local shop and really enjoying it. My partner and I still cannot get over your massive hook cache, and she's concerned what this little hobby will turn into...
@Thefeatherbender4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, thank you! So pleased that you are enjoying it, and so pleased that you got it from your local fly shop rather than Amazon! Yeah I have quite a collection... It all started for me, with everything I had, in one little shoe box and now...

Uh, Barry: the Stimulator is an Randall Kaufmann pattern first introduced in his 1991 book Tying Dry Flies. I used to commercially tie these 25+ years ago exactly how he described in the book. My fave dressing uses a dark olive dubbed abdomen and amber goat for the thorax.

Hi G, Well I am afraid you are misled, like may others. James Slattery is the originator and a good friend of mine. If you read the intro to the book, I can't remember where exactly, but RK also says that he has been attributed as the originator but its farther is Jim Slattery. A great pattern all the way...

@@Thefeatherbender Hi Barry: Thank you for the clarification...didn't know Mr. Flattery was the originator.

The big rainbows in the north park lakes will love this one...lets keep hoping this all goes away sooner than later

Im referring to the lakes near walden Colorado...home of some really big rainbows...I'm not really a lake angler...but after a trip several years ago there I found a special place...especially on the downwind shore early in the morning...late September

Sounds great, no rainbows in Norway, only indigenous brown trout & char.

Excellent attractor specimen extremely we l tied but you have to stop holding your breath when you get to the intricate bits ,we are in the middle of a respiratory pandemic and you will need all the breath you can muster

Barry there’s a guy posting your videos as he’s own hahaha. The resolution of the video is horrid and he cropped it and sped it up. I’m not sure if you care about copyright, but it’s KZbin money out of your pocket.
