Good morning, I’m David Roberts, and I’m on the HMH pro staff also here in Oregon, and waiting for my first TRV although I have been tying on HMH seen 1974. This is something I have been waiting for a long time. All that said your videos was great, I wanted a little help as I have never tied on a true rotary for any length of time so thank you.

I am so thankful for this video you made Gunnar! I bought the HMH TRV after seeing this video. I was using a Regal vice. Problem I had with it is when I was tying micro gamechangers, the shanks would flatten out when using the Regal because the spring tention was so strong. Also, when I was making dubbing loops, the hook would come out. Those problems went away after buying HMH TRV, plus its a rotary vice which is helping me a lot as I challenge myself making different types of flies. Thanks again Gunnar!

Excellent ! I have contacted HMH a few weeks ago. This video has taken me over the edge. I told them the only reason I'm looking at this vise is because of you. I will be placing the order soon. Thanks bro.

Hello again I bought the vise a few weeks ago and now I have learnt to use it properly I must say it is the best vise I have had. Well done HMH

What other vises did you use before? Just curious. Hard to decide which vise I should buy next.

THANK YOU for this video, I was looking at this vise as a possible upgrade but now know it’s not for me, the video was very well done and answered my every concern. Though it’s not for me I’m sure this excellent video will find many others who will love it, thanks again. L 👍🎣👍

A very nice vice the TRV Exhibition, I have one in my collection and like it very much, probably gets more use than any of my other vices at present.

Great video demonstration of truly the best all-around fly-tying vise. You might want to demonstrate how to make tube flies by clamping a rod in the jaws. HMH TRV is expensive, but it is a work of enineering & art. Renzetti might be more elegant and refined. Dyna-King Barracuda is industrial and overbuilt, but lacks the simplicity of HMH

Saw your stuff in Fly Tyer. Good to see you're getting some funds in for all your sharing with us faceless freeloading viewers. I know it's not a lot but hopefully there be enough to get your dog his own pillow.

Indeed a beautiful vice... if you can afford to buy it.

Excellent video and tutorial Gunnar. As a musky fly guy, I would have liked to see how it holds a shank for game changer style flies. Currently tying on a Dyna King Professional Series vice, but struggle with keeping shanks in place.

The more I look at it the more I want to have it. Question. How you kan use it for a tube fly?
@andreaswerngren47075 жыл бұрын
I bought the vise and I think it is close to perfection but it does have problems holding small long shank hooks. If you want a vise for smaller hooks sizes then you should probably look elsewhere.

You still liking the trv vise. Are the jaws great for tying small drys size hooks down to say 24 to 14 range that is mostly what I tie is drys for trout. In my area. The vise looks awesome.
@willshunting3 жыл бұрын
Impressive but the design is still falls well short of the Dyna-king Barracuda in terms of being able to seat the shank of any size hook at the horizontal centre axis of rotation. I tie everything from minute midget patterns for freshwater trout all the way up to saltwater streamers. I find this centralised rotation very important, as it makes for consistent supported hand/finger reach distance, when positioning the end(s) of any material on the shank before commencing tying wraps. This centralised rotation is also invaluable when applying, for example UV activated coating. The hand supporting the applicator can remain stationary while the fly is rotated on the horizontal axis of the shank. The Dyna-king also uses corrosion resistant stainless steel and aluminium alloy throughout.

Thanks for your comment. I'm debating if I should buy the TRV, Regal Revolution or a Dyna King. I tie on #18-#2 hooks. I'll probably buy a Dyna King because I really like the design on their rotary vises.

What is the smallest hook size it holds? I need size 26 and have room to the split tails.

it is a nice vice and ive tyed on it but i would never own a vice with cast jaws..if your tying big and your hooks are secured in the cut grooves your fine but small hooks that are not in the grooves is when the jaws certainly can ship and break especially being cast..
@TheStreamUrchin16 жыл бұрын
Your dog doesn't seem to be impressed at all. That says something, what that entails escapes me, but it's there. Look at him, poor dog has his head buried under the pillow. He just left after giving you a scowl. You took his pillow and pissed him off.

Hey bro, I’d like to ask you that this vise’s head is a same idea of Lawrense’s Law vise?

THIS VISE WILL NOT HOLD A HOOK OVER #6 securely. The majority of the flies I hoped to tie on this vise are saltwater, steelhead and salmon flies. I’ve attempted to contact HMH twice without a response. There are numerous alternatives for far less.
@deanf86424 жыл бұрын
I own one and have had no problems holding anything size 2 and down. With these style (Law) vises you must make sure you place the hook within the correct jaw location

Hey dude..... great demo for the vice. I would’ve liked to have seen/heard a little more credit for LAW’s design. This vice wouldn’t exist if not for Lawrence’s innovation. Oh, and just a little constructive criticism..... the rotation point is it’s axis, not it’s access. Sorry dude. I can’t help my proof reading bit! lol

credit should also be given to the guy who actually designed it..Hans Weilenmann...Lawrence Waldron was the machinist he had build it..

Tie a dozen, second dozen and your fingers hurt, third dozen you can't turn the wheel because of the pain. Needs serious improvements. sharp back side of the wheel and way too short
@deanf86425 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have a first generation model. On the current version the sharp edges on the wheel are gone. Call HMH for a new wheel. You can also order a taller stem from HMH for cheap $$.
