I can’t justify the price I mean all it does is hold a hook ? My vise was £27 it rotates stainless steel I bought it in China it’s brilliant but would never spend big money on something that just hold a hook it’s a total rip off

Although these are cast jaws, rather than the hardened tool steel of the original LAW (and some other expensive copies) the jaw design is almost the same - that is to say amazing. If the LAW is good enough for Davie McPhail and Oliver Edwards, it's likely to be the best. Start saving.

Best vise ever good review just a little heads up idk if yours has it but my jaw has a additional grove that’s used to hold your tube needle or straight shanks. When I tied at the Marlborough show this year I asked John If I can try it out after a couple hrs tying I didn’t want to put my regal back on the table to tie on I was sold on the TRV. It was super nice of him to let me use it and all other tiers kept on asking how you like all weekend. I definitely recommend this any beginner or a vet tier it a lifetime vise for sure!!

Great video! I've been tying on my Peak vise for almost ever and I really have it dialed in but my eye has been wandering to HMH. I tie for my own fishing needs in the off season but find that I usually have more flies than I can possibly fish by mid-winter so I start giving away fly boxes full to friends but anyway I digress I love the style of the TRV and i'll admit it is a bit out of my price range but I think it is justified as it would probably last me my entire tying career.

I have one and like it. I do have two minor complaints though. 1) the less rotation tension the more wiggle in the arm at the body. I have it set right at the point where there is zero slop. 2) the jaws need a wee nudge or guidance to line up perfectly. You can actually see it slightly move up and down as you turn the tightening screw

Merry Christmas! My dear wife just gave me an HMH TRV for Christmas. What a beautiful piece of machine work. Plan to christen it with a batch of Gartisde Sparrows tomorrow. Ben, I thought I was only guy tying on a Xuron vise.... Best Wishes from next door in Groton.

There are some negative comments on line and I'm not sure why? I tie #2's down to 22's and I have never had a hook slip as long as I properly placed it in the jaws and tightened them correctly. I have yet to see better quality, every single part on the vise is Stainless, Brass or Investment Cast steel. The one exception is the nylon friction bushing to control the drag. Keep it lubricated and it will last forever.

@@deanf8642 I think it does take some time to get used to, if you come from a different platform. I think that can trip up some people, but I agree -- once you get the hang of it, and find the right placement for the hooks, it's a rock solid grip.

I’ve tied on a few vises: a Renzetti traveler, a Regal Medallion, a Xuron, and I’ve fiddled with a true Law, but not tied fully on it.

Very stiff and rough vice. No accessories quite expensive.

Hey Ralph: I'm not sure what you mean. It's stiff because it's a vice -- and you can buy plenty of accessories. Different folks, I guess. Happy tying and good luck.
