Well done for the Sunday show. Midas, what can you say? Not a lot but the fish like them. Alway handy to have something a wee bit different in your box.

The tying weekend was excellent!! Well done for getting them all together Lindsay. The Midas video is good, was one of the first that I saw on KZbin. Your variant will definitely do as well as the red one or the firey brown one. Great tie!!! Keep em coming!! ATB Chris.

Lindsey, I'm sure the other examples of the "Midas", including your other one, have a hackle attached at the thorax. On this fly have you deliberately left the hackle off, (as some tiers have done) actually as a dry fly, I think it looks really good, scruffy and would probably float all day
@lindsayiflyfish3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, no that was an error on my part I usually always add a hackle.

As a careful user of materials. I am saving the butts from the base of hopper and daddy legs for using in Midas patterns. Also most of my dubbing materials I add some extra different colour or materials ie hares mask or a trace of a synthetic to seals fur.
@lindsayiflyfish3 жыл бұрын
Always good to maximise materials pal.

Well done for the use of barbless hooks, can I ask why the use of Hanak and why black nickel, thanx
@lindsayiflyfish3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, I went totally barbless nearly eight years ago and initially used FM Grab Gapes. After being straightened out more than once I decided to change and have used several brands since. I settled on Hanak as they suit both my river fishing and Stillwater. In my humble opinion they are pretty hard to beat.

Forgetting the hackle on it’s day is probably a good idea. Especially earlier into the hatch ie start of a sedge hatch as a struggling emerging fly

May well be pal.

Love the midas I've had some great days with them tho the ones I tie have a hackle not sure if it makes a difference I've also tied some with a Deerhurst wing to good effect to.

Interesting fly, it looks like you caught half a dozen fish on it already and they broke a couple of threads. Although I have seen a couple similar beauties produced by Kelly Gallop’s team in their 5 minute fly tying challenge at the slide inn fly shop, I have also seen a couple specimens when cleaning out the trunk of my car at the end of the fishing season. Seriously, nicely done Lindsay.

Loving all your videos, I’ve been tying for more years than I care to remember. But I can’t remember the original tying for the “Honey Bear”, which was very popular back in the day. Do you know this pattern, if so any chance of a video. Cheers Steve

@@lindsayiflyfish Hi Lindsay what hackle would you put on? A black hen or greenwell maybe. Jimf

I put on a brass bead instead of the gold dubbing and fish this as a nymph or swing it. It is deadly!!!
