Yes, a good pair of scissors is a must I think.

Fiskars 5" Microtip are my favorite. Fiskars makes a sharpener for them and I usually give it 4 swipes before I start tying. I am on year 2 of these scissors and I tie almost every day. I use Dr. Slick Arrow point (they have the built in wire cutter) and a razor blade for everything else. Keep your scissors away from GSP, super glue, resin, cement, and obviously wire and lead and they will last.

For sure, all great stuff, I gotta check out the sharpener for it, where you get that?

Very good information for beginners. I would really like to see you do a video on bobbins next. L 👍🎣👍

Ok I will look into it. So far ive had a few people suggest some stuff, I think bobbins was from one person also. I will try to do one of these each month.

Perhaps you could also do certain materials in these videos, things like different kinds of hackle, dubbing, etc. Good video as usual.

I started tying again recently and got a cheap $3 pair of Colorado angler (I believe thats the brand) scissors. Within an hour I was headed back out to get the expensive dr. Slick razor tip scissors. 100 times better. Get good scissors.

I agree man. A good pair of scissors is just as valuable as a good vice

Very helpful video. I just have shitty 4inch off brand scissors and i can tell that they are getting very dull. Gonna have to get me a pair of those risens.
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
You will live the risen scissors, much better than those junky foreign brands. I had a pair of scissors made in Pakistan once, and they lasted like 4 months, i couldn’t cut anything with them
@michiganfisher92532 жыл бұрын
Have had my scissors for like 6 months and they are garbage. Can hardly cut 70 denier 😭😭🤣
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, not so with risen or dr slick. I tie 100’s of flies a month, and I’ve now had my dr slicks for 1.5 years and Risen’s for 1 year, and they both still cut like crazy. I’ve actually used more of the Risen’s and they don’t dull. I mean over time I’m sure they will, but they last much much longer than the junk.

I have a resin issue. I started using the same stuff you use,Solarez. I also bought the same UV light you suggested. I was under the impression that Solarez dries with no tackiness. This is not the result I am getting..there is definitely tackiness and if you give it a little squeeze,my fingerprints are left in the resin.The battery is fully charged,I see wisps os smoke while curing,,don’t understand why it’s tacky. I bought Solarez to avoid having to use alcohol,or Sally Hansen. I am disappointed,any idea why this is happening?
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Are you using the flex formula? If not how long are you curing? You need more time with the thicker formulas or the color resins, and definitely a lot more time with the flex. Thin cures very quick. With the thick formula I need a good 30 seconds to a minute for smaller drops of resin, if I’m building up a big body or something then even more. Flex I find with that light that isn’t the new solarez light, that it does seem to take forever. I generally finish curing in the sun. However solarez new light with the purple cap seems to cure it much quicker. The one I recommended before was a bit less expensive so it helped many people get into using the products but I’ve found over time that the thicker formulas do seem to take a bit longer to tie. Solarez has told me The wavelengths must be a bit different and won’t cure quite as quickly
@richieg84322 жыл бұрын
@@McFlyAngler No,not flex.not colored ,Thick and Thin mixed. I had no idea a cure could take up to 30 seconds,, most videos I see,it seems like they are well under 10 seconds.Solarez said my light should be fine since it puts out at least 390Nm of light. Seems like they tell different people different things.Now that you said it could take 30-60 seconds depending,, I guess that could be my issue.

Omg those are small flies. I saltwater fly fish. My smallest is a 6 to a 4/0
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Yeah for saltwater fishing I tie larger flies like yours also. Definitely don’t use size 28’s for saltwater haha!
