Fly Tying the Apéritif Cruncher

This is a fly that works its wicked way when the bigger fish are looking at surface fry patterns but just won't commit. The sneaky inclusion of this nymph - fished New Zealand style - just under a big buoyant floating fry can be a real winner!
Simple and effective, can't beat it really!

A really useful cruncher. I love your belt and braces style. The single whips overall both ensure a longer more durable fly. Without them at any time one accidental knock during the tying process. Could result enough unraveling to result in having to strip down the hook and start again. Depending on venue and conditions ideally tens or twelves. Size could range from #8 down to #20. Midge to mayfly. The short distance from the large fly is directly down to the narrow of vision the trout has so close to the surface. Further away that fish would not notice the cruncher.
