Fly tying tool you need, that's free if you steal it. Really it's OK, you won't get in trouble.

Wrap the thread 2 or more times and then tighten…vastly superior to 1 wrap….in essence the same effect as a whip finish tool….when done, put a coat of your favourite lacquer or nail polish on the head and it is very secure! Been using pens this way for over 35 years!

awesome, thanks for sharing that, i actually watched a guy tying deer hair the other day that did just what you are saying. He never whip finished on the whole fly.

Been using pens for this purpose for 30 + years….. just is case you don’t know, one wrap of thread on the pen shaft tip is a half hitch but two or more 360 * wraps at the same time is a whip Finnish just like a whip finish tool!!
