I bought this vise 4 years ago in 2020, packed it away to organize some things, just ran across it again. Got it out, tied some flies 14-22 in size and absolutely love this vise! I tied for my family & a local sporting goods store for decades on a $12 post “vise”! And I can’t believe the difference a rotary vise makes! I LOVE IT! I paid around $55 for it back then. I’m not paying hundreds of dollars for a glorified pair of vise grips, but this vise is well worth the money. It already has me spoiled!

Great review. I purchased a rotary vice with bobbin cradle. It’s a lower end vice but well made for the price. It has a smooth cam jaw, smooth easy rotation and adjustability plus steel components. No plastic anywhere. At this point it is a better vice than I will be a tyer. When I become a better tyer then I will consider a higher end vice. But your review teaches me what to look for when that time comes. Thank you Sir.

Well thank you for the kind words Jan! I never discourage people from getting started with kits. In fact, a lot of us started with one. In fact, some of the tools in even the cheap kits will last forever. I think I've still got the hackle pliers, bodkin and whip finish tool from my first kit from back in the 80s. The scissors and vise pooped out long ago, but that's to be expected. I just like to see new folks get into tying, however they do it. :-)

For a new tier, it's not bad at all. But if you do end up with this one, just know that there are others out there that are a bit easier to tie on. :-) Good luck my friend!

Yep David, that is definitely a plus. Lets you use the rotary function on the full range of hook sizes. But I do wonder if anybody ever uses the rotary on a #12 or smaller. I don't think I ever have.

Great review agin Matt. For the price it seems to be a good vise to start out with for sure. Especially if you do not tie on the underside of the hook. I personally don’t tie on the underside that often. But when I do, I don’t rotate the hook. #River.

I think anything that will get someone into the hobby is a great thing. Fly tying can get expensive. We all need tools that will hold up to use and not be frustrating to use. The #River runs vise is not very expensive. If it holds up… At the end of the day, we just need something to hold a hook. Good review!
