Great video and great points. Since I started tying probably 95% leeches, streamers, nymphs. etc.. everything wet. Tied some elk hair caddis and they work, but frustrating. Your points will help me a lot. Thanks!!

I said it before and I'm sure I will say it again - these videos are great and incredibly helpful. May I suggest three topics, one of which may require a multi-video series on its own? 1. How to tie materials at the hook end after I've wrapped them. I'm trying to tie the Sparkle Gnat you posted a video on last week and I just cannot tie the Shimmerbou on at the hook end after wrapping it around the fly. I've had this issue with other materials as well. I don't know if I'm too close to the eye, letting slack get in my thread or what I'm doing wrong. You make it look very easy, but it's not and I suspect I'm not the only one who feels that way. 2. How to identify alternate materials. For example, again with the Sparkle Gnat, I was able to get some Shimmerbou, but how can I figure out what an acceptable substitute is if I don't have a particular material? 3. Demystifying hooks. I don't mean how to read the package, but (a) why is it important to use a certain shape hook for a certain type of fly, (b) what are the key differences between the hook types and (c) how can I determine an appropriate substitute if I don't have the specific hook mentioned in the recipe?

When you do the dubbing video are you guys going to demonstrate different styles or types of dubbing twisters? I’m sure you guys have already considered it as this could be a good demonstration as to why a tier of any skill level may realize they would get a better result spinning dubbing and complex twist style loops using different tools depending on the material going into the loop.

Ok so I've only been tying for about a year now. Some may find this silly but I honestly am not sure of this answer. I want to learn/ advance my "deer" hair skill. Is buying a cheap soft pelt going to hinder my learning or should it help improve my skill? Is there a difference between buying a square chunk for $8 and buying a cheap soft pelt for $60? And I get the biggest difference is how firm one is to the other. I would think I could still make a muddler with a cheap Amazon pelt or would that be best used for tails and or wings

I'm a new(er) tier...only at it about 4 or 5 months. I'm getting the hang of most of this stuff and have made some great progress...if I do say so myself. One question: Why does my dubbing "J Hook" off of the thread?! I'll start it good, using "less than I think I'll need" ...start going down, dubbing in ONE direction...then say, towards the bottom it comes OFF the thread and "J's" all up...wrapping on ITSELF and NOT the thread! ugh...I know I'll get there, but any advice would be sweet!! Thanks!
