Fly Fishing Bennet Spring - Zone 2

This video was shot from Bennet Spring State Park - Zone 2. Zone 2 is flies only during catch & release and flies or artificial lures from March through October. Zone 2 is only 500 yards long but full of cover and lots of trout. I have found that a dark olive Wooly Bugger is a good fly in this zone. I am fishing it using a sink tip 1 fly line. Great video (as usual). My favorite place in Zone 2 is what you referred to as the "gut pile" stream. I always just called it the chute. Indicator rig with a scud or 2 you can literally fish it successfully all day. I am still working on my streamer game.

I use 3X unless the water is very clear. I have an advantage using streamers....in that tippet size doesn't play a crucial role. If I am catch/releasing....then I want to get the fish in quickly and get them back to the water with as little stress as possible. Jeff

@@jcarmichaelable I was there down in 2 as well and the bite was slow. I fished with my sink tip with a olive green bugger and didn't get anything. Switch to a soft hackle size 18 and did ok. It would of been nice to meet you , all your videos are really great and educational. Jeff

@@missouritroutbums598 It would be great to meet you as well...my wife and I are on the go now in retirement. You should come up north to NW Wisconsin and do some smallmouth fishing with me. The St. Croix River is one of the true gems in our country...oh, and there are some big smallmouth. Jeff

I fished for smallmouth in zone 3 and on the river. Caught a few on zone 3 and only two on the river.....usually much better for me... jeff

@@jcarmichaelable that's too bad. I've noticed the same thing. I fish there often and the smallmouth have been declining over the last few years.
