Next Platinum run should answer the question "can you make Byron difficult?" Flying has Staraptor, Gyarados, and Gliscor, Poison has Tentacruel and Toxicroak, Bug has Heracross, Dark has Earthquake Drapion... I think Ghost, Rock, or Ice only would be difficult, and even then, Ghost would probably hard wall at Jupiter's Skuntank, Rock would have Probopass for Gardenia but then lose to Maylene and Wake, and Ice doesn't even have any encounters to use. Basically any fun monotype run has something to clown on Byron. There's gotta be some alternate ruleset like "no STAB" or "no moves over 60 BP" that actually works.

Can you get Probopass before Gardenia? Nosepass is found in Mt Coronet but on like every floor except the first floor and I don't think you can go up or down stairs in Coronet until later

Recommendation: Pokemon Black/White Psychic Nuzlocke You can get a Munna and Woobat pretty early, and following the 3rd gym you'll get a ton more with Sigilyph, Gothita and Solosis. Eventually, even Elgyem! Pretty weird array of Psychic types to choose from in Unova, but I'd hazard it might make a pretty interesting run. Hell, maybe you can even try to get a Zen Mode Darmanitan that you can only use when it is below half HP...
