Nothing beats the sound of a radial engine or a birds eye view of the Keys!

Congratulations! The plane, water and scenery is nice, but finding the right partner for life is even better.

I live in south Miami-Dade and see that plane flying over often. Very distinctive sound. Don't hear that many radials these days.

They get wrecked, rebuilt and returned to service because the world can't get enough Beavers.

Almost 30 years in aircraft maintenance and it’s a love hate relationship with the R985. Love the build quality of Dehavilland products though

Do these folks still have their Cessna 172-M with floats? It had a modified Lycoming that produced 185 horsepower. Much less expensive to charter than the Beaver. Although the Beaver is so iconic and badass it’s worth at least one trip. But yeah, 27 gallons an hour of 100 octane LL can get pricey.
That is a high hourly fuel burn.We operated 985's in our spray planes and working it was 25 gph and X/C was 19 to 20
@SirDrifto9 күн бұрын
@@jhaedtler that's impressive! I'm actually shocked how well you can get the burn rate down on these. I figured the burn rate would be higher.
@jhaedtler9 күн бұрын
@@SirDrifto Most of the Staggerwings had 985's. At the high fuel burn it would fly well over 200 mph. at 22 gph it would average 180 mph. 985's are great engines!

It's due to the type of wing combined with watery long take off runs thus resulting in fuel consumption upward of 40 gph wot during each operation which if I recall correctly averages 20-40 minute scenic flight hour. She is thirsty but lovely contrasted against the dainty Cessna 206.
