I've totally pushed back my trip because of my transfers 😅 but more because of the daily medications. My husband helps me with the progesterone shots. I could do them myself but it's much harder to get to the shot site. Plus times zones would totally throw off my schedule with or without an alarm 😅

One thing that I'd like to add to this is that IVF can be very unpredictable. In general, I don't feel like it's a good idea to travel during or immediate after your IVF cycle for the simple reason that you don't have a set schedule ahead of time. With retrieval, you don't know until each monitoring appointment whether you still need a couple of days or whether you're ready to trigger. With a modified natural transfer, you don't know if, how well, or how quickly you respond to the meds. I've once taken nearly two weeks longer than they anticipated on a transfer cycle due to lack of ovarian response. With a fully natural transfer, it can be even more tedious to track and time ovulation. Even with controlled cycles, not everyone's lining thickens appropriately at the same pace, which can prolong the time to transfer. You usually don't know your next steps until each appointment. There's nothing planned ahead because this just isn't something you CAN plan ahead. That's why trying to work travel plans into this is not very easy and can be very anxiety-producing because there are just so many variables going into this.

What about lifting your suitcase into your car? I traveled solo for FET so I have no help with my luggage. I'm leaving 2 days after the transfer.

Hi Dr. Lora, I wish you were our doctor. My wife (42) and I (58) have been trying for 5 years and have tried IUI. We’ve decided to go the IVF route. My wife being Asian there is a fear with this procedure and has caused many worrisome conversations. The cost in the US is also the biggest obstacle we face ( side note our Doctor kept telling me I should go work for Starbucks because they pay for IVF, done with him). We’ve decided to visit Mexican clinics, one in Puerta Vallarta and Tijuana. What are your thought of this procedure away from USA.?

Hi Dr. Shahine! What is your opinion on traveling BEFORE egg retrieval, when your ovaries are stimulated and full of eggs? I’m considering doing IVF abroad, in which case I might do all of the stimulation in the US and then fly to do egg retrieval in another country (to reduce the amount of time I’d have to take leave from work). Thanks!
