I travel to Sicily from Rome next week and Ryanair still has not updated their website to reflect that the forms, COVID test, etc, are no longer necessary. This had me quite worried... But seeing your experience and that the forms (probably) are not necessary calmed my nerves! Happy travels!

Hey Cameron - yea we totally understand, the website had us a little confused & nervous, we couldn’t figure out what they expected from us & we couldn’t find any answers when we googled it 😂 Luckily traveling within Italy on Ryanair seems to be pretty much the same as it was pre-covid, just tickets and passports needed. Glad our video could provide some insight for you. Safe travels! 😊🇮🇹

Dear Global Expats, I’m sorry that I don’t know your names but you guys are incredible. I just discovered your videos on Sicily and immediately subscribed. The videos are amazing and very professionally done. Have you visited the town of Capaci in Sicily during your travels? That is where my mother was born and I would be very interested in knowing if any of your videos included Capaci. Please let me know in a response if you can. Safe travels. Vaughn 🙏

Question your backpack was larger than a personal item per Rynnair or they really don't check the size? Thank you,
@TheGlobalExpats Жыл бұрын
Sometimes they check the size and other times they don't, I think it depends on the staff at the counter, as per their personal choice? 😓

Great video and great information. I will be flying into Palermo in a few weeks via JFK to Rome to Palermo. But I wanted to know if we are required to have negative test as well as the declaration paper to fly from Palermo to Rome on my return trip back? From what I understand, there are rapid tests they require us to take in Rome both going and coming but I can’t seem to find out what the protocol currently is to fly from Palermo to Rome when traveling back home. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy your trip !!👍
@TheGlobalExpats3 жыл бұрын
So glad you you found it helpful! We know the rules keep changing pretty frequently now for the travel requirements, but if we understand you properly, you will need a negative test result to be allowed entry into Italy, but once you are in the country you can fly domestically without a test. We flew into Milan, then 3 weeks later flew from Milan to Palermo on Ryanair & didn’t need a test. We filled out the self declaration form on Ryanair’s website but they didn’t need that from us when we checked in, they only asked for our tickets & passports & that was it. So once you are in the country you should be good. I think you just need a negative test for your international flights in & out of the country - not for the domestic flights within Italy - just keep an eye on the updated requirements, and we wish you safe travels! 😊

Hii Great Vide!! Is the whole stretch from the airport to palermo above the surface? Or does it have underground parts?
@TheGlobalExpats Жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you so much! It has numerous tunnels that go through mountains but none that technically go 'underground', the rest of the journey runs along the coast! 😅

Hi! This video is very useful! I am planning to fly to Rome from Spain next month. I am a bit concerned about the luggage size. I saw you had a bigger bag, with a colored striped band. Was it a 10kg, carry on size-ish bag that you paid and dropped? Mine is 1-2 cms larger, hard case. I checked the video description in hopes to see the dimensions of your luggage. 🙈 Thank you from the Caribbean, and keep enjoying your travels!
@TheGlobalExpats3 жыл бұрын
Hey Carina, thank you! We had 3 x 20kg luggage, the blue one, big gray one (one with colored striped band and not carry-on size), and duffle bag. Michelle's carry-on bag was the small gray one which I think had to be 7kg? Check the website of the airline you are flying with, some are more strict than others but they also give luggage size requirements. I hope that helps! 🙌🏽 When are you flying to Rome? 🇮🇹

Hello, I have a question. I have checked-in for my flight to Italy, but it says I need to upload my covid test results and documents before entering, I have already filled out the dlpf, but do you HAVE to upload them, or can you just show them to the people who are are at the boarding gate
@TheGlobalExpats3 жыл бұрын
Hey Impaler, are you flying internationally? You can definitely show your results to the people at the airport, uploading them just speeds up your airport process! If you are flying inside Italy you don’t need a covid test, we didn’t need one for Ryanair from Milan to Palermo!
@noodle77253 жыл бұрын
@@TheGlobalExpats i’m flying internationally yea, I know that you need the fill-in form DFPL or whatever it’s called. Already did that. Only thing I need now is a covid test result, and now when I want to print my boarding pass it says that I need to upload my results and documents, and on my boarding pass it says “no covid-documents uploaded”, so I am just confused if I need to do that or just show up at the gate with all the documents, even though my boarding pass says it doesnt have any uploaded documents

How were you able to take all that luggage on the plane?? They made us pay over $100 to check a bag that was 12 kilos.
@TheGlobalExpats Жыл бұрын
We are so sorry to hear that! 😓 We made sure to select the number and size of the bags we were taking with us on the plane when we purchased our tickets, they charge excessive fees at the counter otherwise, unfortunately! 😣

My question is very different. My father is from Sicily and his father my grandfather was originally from Sub Saharan Africa. A black Moore. I want an honest answer about how darker skin people are viewed/ treated in Sicily.
@stefano_etrusco2 жыл бұрын
This is an honest viewpoint as an Italian, at least for what I can see in daily life: racist does exist in Italy and you can see it in action sporadically, but it's very different from the US. It's more in the form of xenophobia in a fairly ethnically homogenous country, and overall is more of a classist (i-e- wealth assessment) thing. If you look like a poor immigrant, possibly illegal, freshly arrived and so on, jour skin color may be just regarded as a confirmation of that. Mind that this is not uniquely related to skin tone: Albanians look exactly like Italians, but in the '90s when they arrived in droves after the fall of communism, they did face some discrimination and racism. On the other hand, if you look reasonably put together, educated and "touristy", your skin color will just spell as "foreigner" and nothing more for 99.9% of people. Of course, you still can meet the occasional douchy person, but that's more of bad luck than a rule. Consider also that there are quite a few of black Africans that came to Italy 30-40 years ago as immigrants and now they have children that are born in Italy, Italian citizens that speak and think like Italians, so a person with dark skin is not seen as strange as it used to, but for example my father saw a black man in real life for the first time in 1944 when he was 12, and that was an US soldier during WWII. On the other hand, in recent years a large flow of illegal immigrants from Sub-Saharan Africa arrived via Libya, and these people reinforced some not-so-good stereotypes, kind of what happens for Mexicans in the US. As I said, if you look "western" and educated, you will be just a bland curiosity for almost everyone.

Erin what part of Sicily? I have sub Saharan African in my DNA. My mom has 6%. Just curious if you are from the same region.
