We flew the Ace into one of my favorite airports to see an incredible world war 1 aircraft collection.
Come see the museum if you ever get a chance. They are usually there on the weekends.

Literally my favourite time for flight. I now volunteer at the weekends at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, England and spend my time chatting about early aircraft. We have on display: a Sopwith Baby, Sopwith Pup, a Shorts S27, what's left of a Shorts 184 (which flew at Jutland in 1916), and a Bristol Scout. We also have many aircraft from other time periods. But I'm happiest back in 1917. Thanks for the video.

@@SirDrifto About 50 on display, but many more in a large hall for storage. We rotate the aircraft from time to time. One of the most interesting is the HP115. It's a unique aircraft (as in - there is only one). Flown as a testbed for Concorde low speed flight. Neil Armstrong flew it in the early 70s. Also, a BAC221 - again, unique. Used for high speed testing for the Concorde wing. This last one a modified Fairey Delta 2 (of which there were 2 built). This one, before its conversion to BAC221, held the air speed record for 18 months back in the early 50s - breaking the earlier record by some 300 knots to become the first jet aircraft to reach over 1000 knots. Record broken by McDonnell Voodoo, I think. If you're ever over here, pop in.

Ok, I’m looking that airport up! Very cool airplane right up my ally. That Fokker is much more original than my look alike. I’d love to see it fly. Thanks for posting this, glad some folks are carrying on the history.

Cool video! Love those old planes! My dad built a Piet back in the 80's with a 1932 Model B Ford engine installed. Unfortunately, the engine seized our on the third flight.

Cool stuff! The original SPAD had a 'Hiss -PAN -oh - SWEE -za' V8 engine. The SPAD XIII and SE-5a are my favorite WWI aircraft. The SE-5 had a British built version of the Hispano engine.

15:03 into vid.. it’s a Dr1… the F1 had curved leading edge to the horzontal stab & no axe (ask?) handles on lower wing tips, among some other subtlety’s.. I’m drooling. Would kill just to get to sit in one. Excellent sortie/visit. Thanks 🙏

Probably would have less cooling issues if the closed them. Cowl flaps are on the exhaust going out the cowl not the air going in

Early airfields were... fields. Just a big open field so you'd figure out which way the wind was blowing and line up into the wind. I wonder if designers from this era gave any consideration to crosswind landings? Fantastic that they're flying these planes even if it seems a bit sketchy.
