Question for you, if you don’t mind: How many flights do you work at any one time?
@guidosarducci1663 ай бұрын
@@sjwecks sorry for the delayed response. Flight volume largely depends on region and flight duration. We try to keep the number of airborne planes we monitor at a reasonable level per dispatcher so we don't run into an issue where something important might go unnoticed. So for say the west coast short hauls we can work more because it's a smaller region with "better" weather, and easier to keep track of changes, where as the East Coast to the Desert and Texas might see less because the area to monitor is larger and more "dynamic". But getting to your question specific to Southwest, a dispatcher would average anywhere from 20 to 35 flights released in an 8 hour period. ETOPS would have maybe 4 to 7 as they are more complicated to plan and monitor.

Hello from Sheraton Dallas Downtown. I'm here until October 16th for training as an operations agent. Saw the rubber chickens on the simulators crossed the sky walk and saw plane views from Love Field. Having a meal card and a 45% discount at the hotel is nice. Food at headquarters is cheap. October 1st new technology for operations agents.

I’m going to be flying this leg with my son next month (December). He is an LAS based FO. We are going to spend 1-1/2 days in HNL where I was stationed in the Navy during Vietnam. Flew in and out of HNL a number of times as a submariner operating missile boats out of Guam. I have been back twice before for longer periods, but I am taking advantage of my privileges. I did want to see this video for a second time to update your thoughts on this trip.

How do pilot go the bathroom while in the air? For your statement 5 hour flight means your locked in the cockpit till y’all land. Which means you can’t get up and go the restroom during flight because of that would involve you going into the passenger area. Please explain
@Bill_N_ATX4 ай бұрын
The pilots can get up and go to the bathroom. The basic procedure is that the pilot calls the senior flight attendant. The pilots will make sure that the light for passengers to be seated is on. Then a flight attendant will use a service cart to try and block the aisle if possible. When ready, the senior flight attendant calls the flight crew to open the door giving the proper code. The door is opened, the flight attendant goes into the cockpit and the pilot goes out to the cabin to the bathroom. The flight attendant locks the door. When the pilot is finished they call the cockpit, give the correct wording and the flight attendant opens the door for the pilot. If need be the other pilot can swap places with the freshly relieved pilot and then go out. Otherwise, the flight attendant leaves and the pilot locks the door. This way ensures that the door is manned at all times, code words are used to ensure that no one is under coercion, and that the flight attendants are able to delay any attacker long enough to get the cockpit door closed and locked and thus prevent any unauthorized entry.
