That swinging stick called Arnis also known as kali is the national martial arts of the Philippines.. "UST " is actually the oldest University and it is actually a Spanish inspired.. tigers represent thier school sports team called Growling Tiger thats why you have seen a Tigers structure within the campus... The fast food restaurants are located in front of the UST hospital, they are leased to different restaurants. But other universities only have their own canteens. UST also has it's own museum and convent for the Dominican priests. University of the Philippines is so big, founded in 1908, and there are jeepneys to take people around the campus.

Thanks "Pinoy Roots" and "Flying Kell" for this video. It is nostalgic for me as I finished my Bachelor of Arts English Major and Bachelor of Science in Preparatory Medicine in UST when I was 15 years old in 1961 to 1966. When I was there there were no restaurants in the campus. But we have the the boys canteen separated from the girls canteen in the Main Bldg. UST has the ARTS & Science Bldg, the Engineering Bldg, The High School and Elementary Bldgs. It also has a Seminary & Hospital Bldg, The Medicine Bldg and its own Hospital Bldg with Nursing school too. It has also the Commerce Bldg, It also has its own Church, a large Auditorium and has an Olympic size Swimming pool. The Main Bldg is also Earthquake Proof. When I was there, there was an Earthquake measuring 7.2 strong that the RUBI Tower collapsed, but the UST Buildings was unscratched. Watching from Illinois USA: 06-26-2021 ...early morning here.

UST is actually a gated school limited only to the students, faculty and staffs. BUT as you can see there is also a Hospital and a Church where outsiders are welcome but they are only allowed to go inside in a specific gate where the Hospital and the Church are located.

Some universities require specific uniforms for courses like for tourism. In my university we have to follow proper grooming like short nail (not painted) and hair (fixed and no colour)

UST is 25.5 hectares if you put it in its area it is 0 225 square kilometers or 225,000 square meters or equivalent of almost 32 professional football fields. Just to give an idea how huge is the UST guys.

Try to react to BGC (Bonifacio Global City) its a very modern city. It has a similar vibe to cities from first world countries. You need school ID or valid reason to get in. The same goes to other universities. They value the security of students and faculties in the school premises. I went to a university where there is no uniform. You can wear casual attire even wear flip flops.

I am a graduate of USt, from my Elementary years up to college. You asked about the entrance guards...yes, UST has 4 main gates because of its size - that will be the gates of Dapitan, Espana, Forbes and P. Noval. All the students wear uniforms. But the uniform varies for each college, depending on your course.

There are wall fences when I was a college student (not in UST) but near by college. Its been 21 years since then and I migrated here in the US. Seeing fast foods inside the campus is a big deal for students even during my time. Added history fact about UST. During WW2, it became a prison for GIs and other foreigners that are members of the Axis coalition.

University of Santo Thomas my Alma mater. It was established in 1611 much older than Harvard University, the oldest University in the USA., established in 1645.During my student days, there wete no fast food, restaurants in the campus. Its a gated University, every College has its own uniform. The monument is about St. Thomas Aquinas, the well known Theologian.

It's like a semi-close community because usually outsiders can access the right wing of the university(the hospital area) since the hospital needs to take in patients. While the school buildings are student-exclusive and only accessible if you have a student ID( i dunno if its the same with other countries but UST's student IDs has like this magnetic chips that you tap onto the scanners of every building you went to). Also, inside the oldest building is a mini museum that exhibits the chair of Saint John Paul II when he visited the campus.

UST is located at España extension, Sampaloc Mla..those fastfoods are for the students convinience ,just imagine the long walk to go in and out, it consumed break time..also during rainy days, streets around usually floods😊

UST also has its own museum located inside the Main Building. Main Building is that big very European looking building where he talked to the security guard. The school also has its Central Library which is one full big building! And each building still has its own library. The Central Library has its Rare Books Section where you can find the oldest books in the country as well as the original El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere books written by our National hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

Correction to his subtitle when the grab driver mentioned where UST at, its not san paulo its SAMPALOC but UST is more popular to the main place named ESPAÑA. And UST is one of the universities that we called U.Belt, try to search it from the map, there are other universities near, the other schools is "college" and most of them are Catholic schools. 🙂

Yes, Thomasians wear uniforms specific for your faculty. And the tiger, yes, that is our mascot. UST students and alumni are called Thomasians and we are Growling Tigers!

I'm a grad of UST. A Thomasian/Tomasino. I wonder if the college freshies still go through the arch of the century then before graduation, students will 'exit' the arch... I miss the college days but a bit sad because it's commercialized and seems to be too crowded with fast food.

Good pointing it out why he didn't take the time to ask people around. That's why he missed a lot of highlights like the Main Library behind him, when he talked to the senior high students, which has one of the best/most impressive Archives in the entire Philippines next only to the National Library. Also, he didn't get to see inside the UST Museum, the UST Hotel [used to house its foreign guests] which has its own ballroom, the UST Arena/gymnasium and pool area, etc. And yes, it's a gated community being a private university. But since it's been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 (its 400th year), it was opened to the public and not just the hospital like before when people from outside just can't wander around or they get apprehended by security.

Each building has its own canteen too. You missed the UST SEMINARY- school for priests. We have nursery-kinder to Post Graduate! You get tuition fee discount for loyal Thomasians. We had Theology and Spanish subjects for 2 years with Spanish priests as Regents and Spanish teachers too (from Spain).

The center building is the administration building - the offices, the main library, the the College of Science (1980's), canteen, the photo studio...there were high school departments actually 2 - there is Pay High School and the Education HS (for scholars). We are called the UST Tigers! The statue is Saint Tomas Aquinas.....you did not mention the UST Seminary, behind the church- school for priests. During our time, the College Regents were Spanish Friars! We have Theology classes for 2 years or 4 semesters. We have security guards per building. Even in college we still wear uniforms. UST was the first university for the medical profession- doctors/nurses. We have kinder and grade school there too. You can practically grow up there- from Kinder to Post Graduate School and have a discounted tuition fee being a loyal Thomasian.

UST is very is a very big campos it's close 200 hectares and most spanish building were destroyed during WW2.It's a catholic university..And I believe it's still own by Spanish king Juan Carlos.Lots of forieng student of different nation. Close to to 70,000 or 100.000 enrollish every semester...university I.D is a must and high school must be in uniforn wth a campos I.D IT IS VERY ELITE university...no high grade ur out.
