First time i heard this song was randomly stumbling across it in the 'My Music' folder of my Windows XP computer back around 2011. I was in middle school at the time. No idea how it got there, I assumed it was preloaded along with the couple of other songs on it. played it and i wasn't immediately thrilled with it. Until the beat came in after the intro. I just remember a whole new ethereal world flashing into my subconscious when it came in. I had listened to a decent amount of electronic music, but nothing like this. That was the first time i was exposed to FlyLo's work. And am I ever grateful i stumbled across this song.

Born in 92, that sound reminds me of playing my Nintendo 64 when I was little, Still have it to this day that and the Ps2 I would say are the two biggest systems I grew up Dynasty Warriors 4 (2004), Shinobi (2002), Mario Kart(1996), Pokemon Stadium 2 (2000), Crash Bandicoot Warped (1998), Super Smash Bros (1999)((Even though Melee is my favorite)), And xbox 360 was kind of the last system of my childhood got that in 07 when I was 14. deathawaits22 Judging from your vocabulary, you're most likely twelve. The reason these games are cherished is because they hold a certain sense of nostalgia to the people who played these when they were growing up. Quite frankly a large portion of games are not creative and generally follow the same basic plots or concepts. It's boring and repetitive.

A lot of producers are visible in this. Pete Rock especially with the little bonus beat at the end, that's CL Smooth era where you hear a 4 minute hip-hop track then get a little snazzy beat to listen to for 30 seconds or so. Double K (of People Under the Stairs) did that a lot too. I see FlyLo's style as a culmination of many genres of music, always borrowing something with a tip o' the hat to whatever the original artist was going for. In some cases he samples spiritual music of Africa etc.

I'm late to the comments (but right on time too, paradox). I just found Flying Lotus so this song sounds pretty tight to me. I found out about FlyLo by listening to a YT vidoe debate about Miles Davis between Stanley Crouch and James Mtume (Rest in Power). FlyLo was mentioned in the comments as having been one of the many artists Miles influenced by his use of electronic synths and beat machines in the 2nd half of his musical career. Anyway, this beat is definitely hypnotic and I especially like the homage he pays to the late Great Jazz phenomena that was Sun Ra, by sampling sounds from the beginning of Sun Ra's epic metaphysical 1973 movie called "Space Is The Place".
