Yep, the ICAO code for the Cherokee 235 is P28B. Which is the same code for the later models which Piper called “Dakotas”. ATC can’t tell the difference. So sometimes they call our airplanes “Dakota”. You get used to it. And yeah you get to learn the joys of fuel management over 4 tanks. What the POH said about that really kinda surprised me. But I looked it up and found that there’s an aerodynamic reason that they want you to empty the mains before the tips. Welcome home, Charlie!
@RusscanFLY7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I find that definitely fascinating. I definitely tend to use the mains the most anyway. I’m going to definitely start digging into the POH, so that I can learn all the intricacies of Charlie. Thank you so much for your continued support! It is greatly appreciated, brother!

Why didn't you clean your windshield, the same bug from the previous video is still on the windshield.

Actually, I didn’t notice. Definitely something that I’ve gotten used to since. I guess, since it was my first full day of airplane ownership, the thought didn’t cross my mind. But yeah, I clean the windshield after every flight now.

Two things I am knocking the rust off in atc training is... Brain freezing when keying up the radio, and all the aircraft ID codes. We're learning both sides of the radio. Now that I have a reference of your Cherokee, I should remember what a PA28 is now. :) Cherokees can be both P28A or P28B, and share their codes with Dakotas, Archers, and Warriors. Arrows are P28R or P28T.

It looks like fun in the PA-28. In my CFI days, the place where I flew had a bunch of high wing planes & Mooneys. Keep on flying and getting flight following; your radio skills will get better with experience. A good power filter AND good grounding can suppress that audio whine. If you can use an isolation transformer for your audio, it should be squeaky clean.

Good instructors talk. Students and concurrent training pilots learn by doing what good instructors ask. Hot and high is common when we transition to heavier airplanes. The six cylinder is a bit heavier than the four. I taught a Comanche 180 pilot and his friend instrument at the same time. With three of us on IFR plans in the Rocky Mountains, ATC kept asking what altitude we were out of. We had to ask for climbs well before minimum altitude crossing fixes. You will appreciate the extra power during Instrument training. I was used to two students as that was how we did it in Army helicopters. IFR, you learn as much as the second pilot. When you get to the point of using your instrument currency a lot, a second pilot is safer than a single pilot with wiz bang automation. We can't bounce an idea off a computer nor will it cross-check our work. Enjoy your training.
@RusscanFLY7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much, brother Jimmy! I love this comment, and all the wisdom contained in it. I definitely agree with you, because I already appreciate the increase power that those extra two cylinders give me. I have already felt the extra power, and have appreciated it for sure. Anyway, thank you so much for your continued wise counsel! It is so greatly appreciated. You make my journey that much sweeter! Be well!

I’m still struggling a little bit to climb, using IAS, but I’ll figure that out to overtime. Thanks again, and I appreciate the support!

You might know this already. If you plot a VFR flight that passes thru a Class “B” airspace controllers most of the time will vector you thru the airspace if you’re on flight following. That’s been my luck. I can’t recall when I had to stay clear of a Bravo.
@RusscanFLY4 ай бұрын
This is a good reminder, because sometimes I do forget. I had to happen to me in a class, Charlie situation, one time, because I was talking to approach control, and said that I was going to avoid the class Charlie’s airspace. They had to remind me that I didn’t have to, since I was talking to them. Thanks for the reminder!

What cruise speeds did you see each leg? How much fuel did the whole trip total out too? Nice seeing it with you!
@RusscanFLY7 ай бұрын
So is interesting, at some points we were seeing a 34 knot headwind so our cruise speed were about 112 to 115 kn over the ground. But the last leg from Kentucky to Doylestown, was more representative of the 135 to 140 kn over the ground cruise speed. We were burning anywhere between 12 and, 15 of fuel an hour, depending upon what phase of Flight where we are in. I think we ended up using somewhere around 95 gallons of fuel I think. I’m going to have to see if I can’t do some math there later on.
