A Cherokee Six once hauled 7 of us (including pilot) and ALL our baggage from Skagway Alaska to Juneau to catch up to the ferry we missed when the train engine broke an axle on White Pass. That was in 1974. I could not believe that little plane could take off with that load but it did with power to spare- awesome plane...and pilot!

Beautiful! I love the 235. We had a 1969 235C in the red and white with a little bit of blue on the tail paint scheme. Unfortunately it was burned by terrorists in 1977 during the Rhodesian Bush War. It was the only time I saw my dad cry. He replaced it with a Beech V35A, which in turn won its place in history as the first and only V-tail Bonanza to be equipped with twin .303 Brownings in pods under the wings. At the end of the war my father had to return it to its civilian state. After my dad passed in 1990 it was sold to a South African gentleman, who took it to Florida when he emigrated from SA.

What a great aircraft, and what a great flyer. People speak of "1964 airframe", but that aircraft has been updated and gone over by so many people, and so many new parts, that I wouldn't hesitate to go up in it, have a friend with an older aircraft, and people don't realize, so much of it has been replaced or redone that it is actually more late model, than older. Love the avionics systems he had done, which makes it fly like a new craft. Tom is a great example of the best of the aviation community.
@AviationNut6 жыл бұрын
@niceguy217 I agree. A lot of these older aircraft are actually safer now then they were when they came out of the factory, especially with all the new avionics, engine and airframe upgrades. A beautiful aircraft and great pilot! Again, I learned a lot today. I loved hearing his stories of the failed engine, and the work he had done on the plane. Something you mentioned did pop to mind during this video when you mentioned that you replaced a cylinder head... what is your history in planes? All I know is that you were an instructor for a time, and then you were a corporate pilot before the stroke. I'd be interested to hear your story as a pilot. How did you get started, why, where, what planes have you flown, have you owned any, any favorites, and any desire to get back in the pilot's chair?

What a gorgeous aircraft. I like Tom's attention to detail. The Cobra (I assume replica) and Mustang were a bonus! I enjoyed the interview. I liked the cockpit angle of the footage. The other angles were nice but the cockpit angle gave it a "sit down interview" feel. Do you ever fly with anyone that uses an oil analysis service like Blackstone Laboratories. I'm sure there are others, they are just who I use. Oil analysis will tell you a lot about how well a new engine is wearing as well as the condition of an older engine. They have a protocol specific to aircraft. Sample kits are free and it's easy to collect the sample and send it in with the USPS.
