Why does the pilot say “rotate “ when they liftoff?
@TheRunwayRyan9 ай бұрын
In a jet aircraft, we calculate a set of speeds for every flight. These are variable for each takeoff based on the temperature, weight, runway condition (dry, wet, snow, etc), elevation, and winds. The first speed is V1. If anything bad happens before that speed, we abort the takeoff and stop on the runway. After V1, no matter what happens we continue into the air. The pilot states "V1" and removes their hand from the thrust levers to prevent the urge to pull them back if something catastrophic happens after that speed. The next speed is VR - "Rotate". That is the speed at which we pull back on the yoke and begin the liftoff phase of the takeoff. We verbalize these speeds so we know when they occur. In a normal takeoff you will hear "V1", followed shortly by "Rotate".

A limitation not to arm until the ILS needle comes alive? Respectfully, I don’t think that’s correct. I think it states you have to be within 90° of the final approach course in bound before you can arm it.
@TheRunwayRyan9 ай бұрын
I was surprised to find this limitation too. I wish I could attach a photo here, but it won't let me. The Flight Safety limitations cards state "When conducting an approach that utilizes a localizer (ILS, LOC, LOC-BC, LDA, SDF), the approach mode (APPR) must not be selected until the course deviation indicator (CDI) has clearly moved away from a full scale deflection and the aircraft is within the published service value for the approach. Failure to observe this limit may result in capture of a false localizer lobe, resulting in incorrect lateral guidance." I'm not sure if you have access to the FSI training cards, but it is card L-25A if you do. This would also be listed in the AFM limitations, but I don't have that reference page in front of me.
