Romanza's first training day and drone shoot for the New Zealand's Coastal Classic was both fast and epic.

Can't wait to see you get yours, hopefully sooner than later. I love watching the Rapido fly along at ridiculous speed, but it's a little disturbing seeing that leeward ama almost completely submerged.

Seconded on Frank's comment: any boat looks amazing (ok, perhaps not this amazing ;) in a beautiful breeze and flat water, but how about an apex sea from 20 knots? 25? 30? And in view of what we've done to our climate, I'd sure love to see her riding out some force 10+ in the open ocean (yes, even given that outrunning a hurricane in this boat would probably not be the least pleasant thing I've ever done?). I'd be happy to run the test... I think... ;)

@H. Kirk And any salesman knows that you can take money from fools by showing your product only under ideal circumstances because fools will forget to ask what happens when things go bad. Hence my question. SHOW me how the boat responds as it's pushed to its limits, because every sailor knows that he will make mistakes, and it's important to study how the boat will respond when you screw up (or choose to go out in weather because it keeps the damn motorboats at home ;)
@fugue1373 жыл бұрын
@H. Kirk Nice video. I've met Jens Quorning and he's brilliant---I'd love any of his boats! I've had my F-22 out in 30 knots of wind a few times, but not in open water. I've been at sea in storms in a few different boats, but never a multihull. Given the number of monohull sailors out there your guess about me wasn't terrible, but I'm specifically interested in how the boat in the video handles different conditions. M&M know what they're doing so it's probably some form of good, but there's still a lot of leeway for choices they'll have made for seaworthiness, seakindliness, speed, dryness, light-air speed, heavy-weather speed, handling, etc. How much like an ORMA 60 vs Neel 65, and in what ways?

Absolutely agree. I dont like how that leeward hull dives in relatively flat water (1:03)...that situación with big seas and strong winds could be near to capsize.

Looks like this boat is so fast that when weather gets rough, just heave too and sail when weather improves Wonder how fast this tri would go with tail wind. Guessing much less than beam.

The low-side float seems to want to submerge. A lot of spray over the top of it. Not sure how that would behave in rough waters.

I second your comment, that leeward hull looks like it wants to pearl, doesn't look like the blue water hot rod that I thought it was!!!

The term you are looking for is "badly". That open cockpit is fatigue waiting to happen. One would definitely need an experienced racing crew. Husband and wife cruisers, ha, ha, ha. This is a coastal or day sailor, in spite of its length. Too bad, too. If it was advertised as a rich person's toy, that would be the market. Sailing around Florida and the Bahamas, heck yes, impress the girls. Two weeks oceanic? Hell no.

This is a race boat. Look many race boats in a similar configuration have capsized in the past couple of years on open sea races. Not funny.

Ama looks to have about half the minimum buoyancy I would want. It was buried even it those gentle conditions. I hope... is it La Vagabond? know what they're doing.
Just don't like how far the starboard pontoon is in the water, not a fan of tri's. Maybe fast but not as safe as a multi-hull cat.
@SOLDOZER3 жыл бұрын
Is there a single hull cat?
@Renegade0403 жыл бұрын
@@SOLDOZER of course there isn't, what's the point of your question.
@jamesaron19672 жыл бұрын
Trimarans on paper are supposed to be safer. Superior righting moment means they can heel more without risk of capsizing. How much this bears out in reality probably depends more on the specific boats being considered rather than the number of hulls. Also, in case of impacts leading to hull penetration, having three hulls is much safer than a cat or mono.

@jamesaron19672 жыл бұрын
That's what trimarans generally are, monohulls with amas. If you're talking about hull-spanning main deck cruisers like Neel, those boats aren't traditional trimarans despite the triple hulls.
