Quite a complex unit. The actual current regulation for the laser is a surprise.

Is there nothing writtten on the laser module ? Or is it just a bright LED with lens, would measuring the current directly tell you the power ? Nice effect though :)

It's a three-wire job with two wires connected, so more than just an LED I reckon. It's at my fiancee's house now but I could check it out with my USB power meter next time I'm there, see what the difference is between laser on and laser off.

The buck regulator driving it (NR131S?) looks like it may have a FB sense threshold of 0.8V and is being used in current regulation mode with the 2.2ohm sense resistor. That would hint at 360mA which is the same as a typical 1W LED. The effect is definitely from a laser diode though. An LED would not produce that effect through a diffraction film. The thing probably puts out more infrared from the DPSS laser than green light.
