Thank you Dave She really looks her best for her 100th anniversary. I had a great day out in Crewe. The blue train at the beginning was a lucky bonus I did not know about. It is a retired High Speed Train that is now used for luxury days out and was going from it's home in Crewe to Carlisle. Flying Scotsman is touring the country and visiting our heritage lines all year and, quite rightly, getting lots of attention being so famous

Thank you Henry I did not know about Blue Pullman and was just in time to see it leaving. I had gone to see Flying Scotsman and visit the heritage centre. Turned out a good day out

Cool, I saw her myself when she was on the east Lancashire railway back in March

Thank you CC. I saw her on Railcam there and last time in real on shed at Haworth the other week, looking polished very shiny in the sun.

Great video cedar looked spotlessly clean and shiny allways a crowd puller you wouldn't think it was the age it is and when you think of all the travels its been on amazing thanks

Thank you yorkshirepud. She does look gleaming. They must of polished her up for the centenary cos I never saw her look that good before. I was surprised there were not more people on the platform on the return trip and was not expecting to get a chance look on the footplate. A few got lucky with the long delays due to a points failure and the lady in the green dress who was waiting said to get on while we had chance. They were going on the train so I was going to let them on before me and if there was not time for me to have a look at least they would of.

2nd lol Very nice vid of a truly classic train! I see the police train fans got the privilege of sitting in the seat there. I presume that when they pull into a stop like this, they just unroll the fire hoses and hook up to the hydrants and load up with water.

LOL Yea Well done. The police were great. They were chatting to people and not being jobsworths so everyone was happy they could get close up to the loco. They looked to enjoy the visit to the cab and sure they will count it as one of their best days patrolling the station. These days with no water towers on the main lines they fitted the tenders with hydrant connections so they can fill up easily here without needing a pump to force the water in from a road tanker. It was great having chance to get on the footplate and not have wait over an hour to pay £6 like the other week when she was at Haworth. The lady in the green dress kindly said to me to go on before her, they were on the train and I had said to them to get on before it was too late so I was not in there long. It was roasting hot in there.

Looks a damn deal better in BR Green than in apple green. Mind you I have only ever seen her in BR green so I can’t say much
@cedarcam Жыл бұрын
I always knew her in LNER green as 4472 and think that was nice but I do prefer the BR green because thats the colour I remember seeing locomotives in as a kid. Never seen her so polished up as this day, now knowing there was a Royal Train to work 12/06/2023 I bet thats why.

Great video cedar loved the opening shot. I noticed the rear side door on the pullman HST is different. Vented not windowed. Have they done all their the Midland pullman livery power cars like that now ? Some still had the original doors at first. I know LSL have 7 HST power cars but only 4 are in Pullman livery and one of those 7 is stored in EM livery. Nice you cabbed Scotsman and got close to it. It must be in good health again after it's slight issue on Howarth shed. Wonder if you can still walk down towards the old Crew DMD and get a view of some of their stuff though Security and H&S might of got tighter about that.

Thank you axl. I did not know about the Blue Pullman and as we came in I saw it so made my way over to 12 just in time which is why there are no other shots of it. I have not taken note of power car numbers but have more on video with the vented windows. They keep doing little changes to them. I did not intend to cab Scotsman but standing by the cab only a couple of people were asking if they could The lady in the green dress said to me get on while you have chance. I knew she wanted to go on and was on the train but she insisted I go on first which was very kind of her, so I only had a quick look round We did not know she would be delayed by half an hour so many more got to cab her after we had. I had a walk about the station one day but you cannot see a lot from there. there is a replacement bus service area I thought would give a better view. I wonder if you can get closer from outside the station as some lads were sat on the roof of an old building looking at Scotsman

Thank you Phillip Sorry I do not know any of the crew The driver was very helpful and told me the timings for the return into Crewe so I was able to get back from the heritage centre in time They were not regulars from West Coast I see most times so could of been ones more experienced with Scotsman. Hope thats quick enough LOL

Amusing ! I wonder how many of the public climbing into the cab, realise they are getting on a "Steam powered bomb". Indeed roughly the equivalent of a WW2 RAF 500lb bomb, should that boiler explode. Or indeed the possibility of a "Blow back" which could incinerate everyone in the cab ????
@cedarcam Жыл бұрын
Strict regulations and boiler testing make a boiler explosion very unlikely to happen these days. A blow back on a stationary locomotive is also very unlikely, these happen when air pressure outside the locomotive increases causing the exhaust gasses to be driven back into the fire and exploding. Entering tunnels drivers have to take care to ensure that does not happen by use of the blower and keeping firebox doors closed. I am not scared of getting on the footplate but it is something I do not often do as I am warey of high pressure steam. You are right there is a huge force in the boiler and things have gone bad in the past. Years ago I remember a black 5 washout plug blew out breaking a wheel spoke and it was found 1/4 mile away. That is unlikely but happened due to a wrong size thread on the plug if I remember right. I have on video somewhere a traction engine water gauge glass breaking and releasing scalding steam and water. The engine man leapt clear unhurt and went back to damp the fire as soon as he could so the boiler would not be damaged. As a kid I rode on an industrial saddle tank locomotive, they never had any water in the gauges. I asked why and they said because the glass can break so we do not use them. They filled the boiler often but looking back I wonder how low the water level got and how lucky I could of been. I guess not many think about these things as they climb in the cab
