It was a dark day, wet in the morning but dry in the afternoon when the very low sun broke through the clouds.
These are the last days of the Rail Head Treatment Trains as leaf fall is ended for the year. Also the final days of Class 68s on the RHTTs since DRS are not taking on this service in 2024.
There has been track relaying west of Currock Junction on the coast line. We see a tamper heading out to fettle the newly laid track.
Flying Scotsman and the Waverley had a speedy journey to Carlisle. It left York 30 minutes late but arrived at Hellifield for the water stop only 15 behind schedule.
The train left Hellifield 26 behind schedule but gained 15 minutes on the Long Drag between Settle Junction and Ribblehead!!!!
By missing the water stop at Langwathby (rarely used anyway) the Waverley arrived into Carlisle 11 minutes early!
I think 47804 was pushing a bit! ll the same the sound and steam were impressive!
Pendolinos (including the Pride livery one) TransPennine Nova 2s (Class 397) and Northern 156 and 158 units also make an appearance.
Apologies for dropping 17 seconds of sound - a technical issue with the connection from my external microphone and the camcorder usually resolved by blutack- unless I grip the camcorder to tightly!

Glad that you caught the final steam departure - for some unknown reason my camera ceased recording just before 60103 began to move. Great video Leslie, FS has certainly had a ball to celebrate her centenery. I enjoyed her up at Aviemore in Sept on Strathspey line, 2 weeks before she had her "bump" wishing you a joyful and happy Christmas . Stay warm for once

There were big problems on ECML and an over running possession outside York so nothing could get out until 8am when Scotsman was due to leave. They had to do a platform change and shunt the stock so she was not away until 30 late. Great video and not such a bad day by the look of it. There was plenty of rain in my area.

Thanks. Sounds par for a Sunday morning. The driver definitely called on the diesel on this trip. We had been forecast a very wet afternoon. It was dull and even occasional glimpses of blue but the rain held off.

Cracking video of the A3 amidst the everyday passenger and other traffic but I wish they would get 103's cab roof repainted in black again, it just don't look right!

I never go to see Scotsman sadly, my train was cancelled from Haltwhistle so I had to get an earlier train. Which was infact the one you put on this video the Carlisle-Whitby operated by 156448

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Yeah it looked it, still though Scotsman at Carlisle not a bad sight on a murky Sunday afternoon. I’m coming back up in January and it will be mid week then so my plan is Wednesday or Thursday to go for a day and see all the freight and other things

I do wonder if there was any one who boarded that Whitby train got off at Whitby. I've got a gripe, Les. Down your way you get 68s on the RHTT duties. Up here all we get is a GPV. That sucks!

Next year who knows what will be on the RHTTs as DRS are not providing the service next year. I have wondered if anyone would bother going by that train to Whitby too - certainly you can't make a return journey by through trains!

Great footage Les, a question if you don't mind, is the Class 47 at the rear in case of breakdown, or to assist as a banker when needed; or is it used as the power pack for the train, or is it all three..??

A combination of all three! In this case it was in the event of FS struggling on the journey given the weather but in the event pushed the train, certainly over the S&C..With air conditioned stock the loco would provide 'hotel services' ie power to the air con and kitchens.
