One of my favourite modules of the lot. An incredibly nice helicopter, modern systems, single seat, everything I could want. Initially the flight control computer steps all over you, but once you get the hang of it everything is so much easier and the helicopter really can fly, target and kill at the same time with one pilot. Just hovering for those last two makes things easier but it was made to move, as per modern doctrine. I also love how it uses the exceptional yaw authority in lieu of a rotating cannon, it takes a bit of time but with a gunner-pilot you can really make use of that. I'd rather a NATO HUD and a wider camera gymbal but everything else just feels so perfect to me. Also the abrupt autospeed is a pain, but after you learn to take it seriously it no longer causes problems.

The KA-50 autopilot\trimming system is psychotic. The best thing you can do is to keep the 'flight director' ( which isn't a flight director at all, it's more like a manual control option ) switched on. That will reduce the Kamov bureau's attempts to fly you places where you don't want to go. Note I say 'reduce' Your determination to destroy multiple Russian helicopters in the face of overwhelming odds reflects great credit on you and the Air Force or Navy, Marines or whoever :)))
@MongooseTacticool4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, its like you're just there to advise the autopilot lol. I just hold trim whilst manoeuvring, then adjust after.
@MarvinCZ4 жыл бұрын
For a quick attempt like this, sure, just use the FD. But if you intend to fly it more, better learn to use it properly. The AP is great if you understand how it works.
@PegmodeChiptune4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the best tip for using the autopilot is to hold down the trimmer during maneuvers. Having the Trimmer held down acts a lot like FD mode but as soon as you're finished your maneuver, you release the trimmer and you're freed up to not fly as actively. Personally when I need to do a bit more hands on flying I disable the heading and altitude maintain modes. At that point it flies somewhat like FD mode but much easier. There is a collective clutch that people forget about as well. It sets the altitude which your altitude hold mode tries to maintain. On the real KA-50 you need to hold it down to move the collective. It's not hyper important for flying in DCS but if you're having altitude hold problems it will help. When you understand how to use the autopilot the KA-50 because extremely fun because you can then pull off a lot more cool stuff. I'd say stick through it and try to understand how to use it and you'll have great time with the KA-50
@CakePrincessCelestia4 жыл бұрын
@@MongooseTacticool This is literally how it's to be done. Maneuver with the trim button depressed and release it when you're satisfied. But well, I also switch on FD as soon as things get hot. But it works quite well for cruising and transitions. Having an FFB stick though which makes it actually work like the real thing. I only can imagine it's a major pain in the rear with a non FFB stick...
@paristo4 жыл бұрын
You use Flight Director only when you need to fly long periods without Auto-Pilot because one of the channels (or all) are malfunctioning. Otherwise you never use FD for flying, instead you perform attack runs with rockets and gun (fixed mode, not automatic tracking) by holding Trim button down. All flight maneuvers and such are done with the AP, it doing it all as you command. And for easier learning you just keep tapping trim every second while you do all maneuvers. The AP has only about 16% authority from the collective, pedals and cyclic position you have when you trim, so you need to learn move those to < +/- 16% from the position that gives you the flight profile you want. The AP is the crucial part for operations so you can spend time looking outside and search targets with Shkval doing automatic scanning and target tracking (in FLIR version Shkval has automatic target detection and locking anywhere in frame). It takes time to learn how to allocate piloting tasks to computer when so required, so that you focus one thing at the time. Flying with FD activated is same as holding Trim button down, so AP channels are temporarily disabled and only input is dampened so that overcontrolling doesn't happen.

Later after declassifying a certain, yet uncertain airframe, it opened the Jim Butler parade. A position that was usually fulfilled by the current shift in flight at 10 am. The f117a opened that year's parade, solo. Which we had a formation of three on- shifters every year before. this night time mystery revealed itself at 10 a.m... I even had my Rottweiler pose on a cinder block wall to catch this historic reveal with that airplane in the background. Finally a face to the voice. you dont need vr, you can get a headtracking setup for under 60 dollars
@poiu4774 жыл бұрын
with an IR LED headset clip, PS3 Eye Camera, and the free OpenTrack software, you can play DCS with headtracking. I'd be happy to help you get setup, you need a pretty powerful PC but you would need an even more powerful one to push vr so that shouldn't be a problem.
most people actually prefer headtracking over vr for a few reasons, it is much cheaper, you can achieve higher frame rates, and you can still see your HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick). I personally use the Logitech x56 HOTAS, as it fit my budget, but there are more high end models available if you're interested. Some of them lack a rudder control on the stick however, so you might need rudder pedals as well. The Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder Pedals are a good choice, offering a rudder axis as well as individual brake axes.

Hate flying this with force trim. Rather use PPJoy & GlovePIE to just dynamically adjust a virtual cyclic. Works even better with a static side pressure stick than a spring-centering joystick, too. They also need to fix the pitch oscillations, increase yaw authority when the yaw SAS channel is off, and increase yaw damping when the yaw SAS channel is on... especially when the poorly-named Flight Director mode is on. Manual heading designation with FD-off by either toggling the SAS yaw channel or trimming the yaw? Goofy. Just dampen my yaw rate when I stop pushing the pedal! They also are still defaulting to dual triggers and requiring people to go into the LUA files to fix it last time I checked.
