what happened to Gary, please share a story so that we can all know a little more and be a little more on alert. a short memory of who he was would help as well. Always so sorry to hear of death and tragedy, but from memories come healing and solace.

Thanks for sharing Ben. And nice to spend some time with your dad. I worked for and with mine for almost 30yrs. Not always easy for a son. @@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot Hey Ben. My old flying buddy had a 47 V Bonanza. We flew her everywhere in Washington and Oregon. Whenever we got up to 8000' at cruise, we'd get what he'd call the "V tail wiggle." Man we had great times in that Beech. Looking forward to more videos.. Take care.

Great video Ben! This is Jason who flew in and met you in January. Do you have an external pic of what gopro mount you’re using on the v-tail? Great video!
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot3 жыл бұрын
Great to hear from you again, Jason! I do have a pic of the GoPro mount that I can send you on Messenger. It’s pretty simple really. I drilled a hole in a go pro mounting point from a kit and ran a bolt through a thin aluminum strap with holes drilled on each end. The holes line up with two threaded holes on the leading edge of the stab (some early models have the threaded holes and some don’t not sure what the holes were originally for). Because of the necessity for the two threaded holes on the stab, my mount is pretty model specific. So far I’ve been up to 175ish without the wind ripping the camera off so I’d say it works pretty well.

Awesome stuff fellow Bonanza lover. Get the flaps up as soon as you can, then gear.
@harpoon_bakery1624 жыл бұрын
are the flaps pretty delicate?
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot4 жыл бұрын
@@harpoon_bakery162 the flaps aren’t fragile, but flaps before gear vs gear before flaps is a debate regarding short field take off performance. You try to clean up the airframe as soon as possible after liftoff to get maximum performance, but there is a bit of a debate as to whether you should raise the flaps or the gear first. I do gear first because I don’t want to lose the lift gains until my gear is stowed. Sometimes the gear transition from down to up will result in a slight sink so I keep flaps down.
@benjigault90434 жыл бұрын
@@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot flaps up first because they are drag and create a nose down tendency. Leave the gear down until clear of the obstacle, because raising the gear drops the inner gear doors and actually creates more drag. So if the flaps are out and you're bringing the gear up you are in the dirtiest configuration there is for a bonanza. Later models with the 24 volt system have much fast retract times. The method above is in my POH for short field takeoffs over obstacles.
@benjigault90434 жыл бұрын
@@harpoon_bakery162 Its not that they are delicate but that they increase drag and slow acceleration.

Cross countries are what Bonanzas do best! On long cross countries out west I typically cruise between 10,500-12,500....gets the fuel burn down to around 11.5 gal/hr and 180+mph ground speed. (‘62 P35) Pretty darn efficient airplane. 😁
@harpoon_bakery1624 жыл бұрын
wow, 180+ is fantastic, what a bird she must be to only be sucking down less than 12 gph is phenomenal, I mean are you kidding, 1962.

@@harpoon_bakery162 not kidding....real numbers...158-160kts...or just north of 180. 190-200mph and I’d be lying. 😉. Yes, 1962 w/io470n 260hp.

Also for the landing, try not to focus on your landing spot or look straight ahead, but look to the sides and at the horizon, this will help with the flare timing. You were lined up well and everything looked good but the flare started too late, try to be a few inches high and hold it just off the ground until it settles. FWIW- my dad was my primary instructor in our family bo. Glad to see other father son bonanza guys! Looking forwards to you passing that checkride Ben!
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was really sloppy, but I think I have gotten in the bad habit of looking directly at my spot instead of looking out the periphery for depth. I think the hour and forty five minute flight also messed with my focus. I’m not used to flying that long. Time to get back to the basics!
@benjigault90434 жыл бұрын
@@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot I dont think it was sloppy at all. I also used to focus directly on my touchdown point, and this can be really bad for night landings with depth perception not being as good as during day time. Flying with a buddy who used to fly U2s in his 170 taught me how to land much better. Looking forwards to the next video.
