Very impressive. I am a retired pilot and just wanted to say this is probably one of the best times in the last 50 years for young people to go into aviation. I read an article about airline pay recently and it seems to be very good. With conservative money management you could easily retire as a multi-millionaire. Money is not incredibly important but it makes life a bit easier. Plus it is a very rewarding and interesting career.

In addition to the deserved praise in the comments, let me mention 2 critiques--- 1) Your call to New Cuyama area traffic, alerting any fliers to your approaching aircraft, was quite late. You were on right base, the 1st call should have been at least 5 miles out And the distance you were from the airport when you said to us that "no traffic in sight" was far enough away to miss some traffic. You may have kept a good eye out while getting in the pattern, but since this is an instructional sim video, mention to your viewers that watching for traffic at a non-towered airport is constant. 2) At a non-towered airport that's really in the boonies like this, a fly-over is recommended. This is for animal-on-runway check, and to check the condition of the runway surface. I don't know how it is now, but 2 years ago (2018) this runway was unusable from heat-cracked asphalt-- broken chunks all over the place, and white X's painted at both ends to say runway closed. But not regulation sized X's-- they were small enough to make you really have to look. The owner doesn't bother to update the Supplemental Chart booklet (formerly called Airport Facilities Directory). It's literally the Wild West sometimes, non-towered airports are a crap shoot and require serious diligence.

One recommendation, and perhaps check with an instructor to confirm (rather than listening to some clown on the internet, i.e. me): put the carb heat on before you get out of the green arc with your power. I was taught to always have the carb heat on when you're outside the green in the 150/152.

Love your set-up and channel Josh - amazing. I'll be modeling my build after yours (like a lot of people I'm pretty sure). Couple flying observations - your downwind call was a little early - looked like you were still heading in the wrong direction when you called Right DW. And also, there is only one final (on a single runway), not a left or right. Blue Skies.

I've flown into/out of Oceano - there used to be a great little seafood joint within walking distance of the runway. My experiences with flight sims is that I haven't flown one yet, at least with the one monitor that I use, that isn't as hard or harder than the real thing. For one reason is that you don't have real world sensory inputs - which in certain situations you can't always trust in real flying, especially in IMC. If you can take off and land in a PC simulator consistently, you should be capable of real flying with appropriate time and instruction. One of the obvious differences is that some mistakes made in real world flying may cost you your life.

Hey boss try overhead departure method for cross country flight. It’s easier to circle around with airport insight until you level at crushing altitude than direct course to your destination. In real life flying when I go cross country Flight with my college they prefer I do set heading departure which Is also another good departure procedure as long as you have nav logged planned out. Those two for VFR cross country departure will make things much easier.

Impressive setup man. It reminds me of my flight training in both a Cessna 152 and 172. Training was out of Tulsa Intl Airport. I can remember the first time doing stall training getting motion sickness and having to open the upper vents to get some hot “fresh” air in the Oklahoma heat. Really cool thing about the planes that I flew was that they were equipped with some really nice avionics. Not typical with 152s for sure

I just started getting into sim piloting. I'm just now starting this journey into this rabbit hole. I have a triple 32-inch monitor setup and I have a flight yoke and a 3 lever pack. I'm going to buy the foot Rudders probably next week. I am just now at the end of my flight training so I have so many questions that hasn't been answered. I'm obviously flying the Cessna 172. I have yet to figure out how to set my direction in degrees. I don't see which gauge would tell me that and they don't go over that in training. Everything else I figured out for the most part I still need to configure the start of the engine I have no idea where that is on my console I have the Logitech flight yoke and throttle cluster and I will be getting those pedals. I would very much like to get some actual gauges I can put on my desk that tell me the altimeter the flight speed and the direction in relation to degrees. Everything else seems to be pretty straightforward as you can see most of it on the - all you have to do is go through your PreFlight or pre Landing checklist. Plus at what time do you start interacting with Air flight control?

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing your passion for aviation. Recently, I have had the hots to buy a 172 and resume flying but between, the cost of the bird, annuals, BFR's, medicals, insurance, AV gas, hangar rental and don't get me started on the cost of an engine overhaul, the cost have persuaded me to consider, again, a flight sim. Your setup is so realistic that I think I'd be happy with holding onto my cash and put a lot less into a decent sim and enjoy the passion on a budget. I hope you continue to make videos. One thing I'd like to see would be some IFR work and more on tricks with VOR's. I am decent using a VOR to navigate with but using 2 or more and knowing all that goes on with that would be a good arrangement. BTW, I guess you know the long wire antenna on your 150 is for ADF... I don't hear much talk these days about using ADF navigation and MANY beacons are no longer active but if you can tune into a local AM broadcast station, it's not a bad way to get you close to your next airport.. Excellent commentary with respect to procedures necessary to ensure safe flight. I haven’t flown in 10 years but thinking of getting current. At 62, I still love flying. Currently, I fly X-plane in VR on two platforms, the oculus rift and HTC Vive Pro Eye which has eye tracking capability I’ve owned, and flown, several flight sim’s, including one professional system at Liberty University. I’m curious what your thoughts are on flight sims such as what you have (very impressive!) and flying in VR.

5:50 I'm trying to understand the altimeter. In this case, he is at L52 (Oceano) which is located at 14 feet MSL. Why does it appear that his altimeter shows ~200 feet while sitting on the ground? I thought we set the barometric pressure according to AWOS, and that should align the altimeter to the correct local elevation of the airport.
