And I started carrying tie downs with me, cause I experienced the same thing, a podunk airport with no tiedowns. Liked the vid. Don’t wanna put cold water on it but what was your engine failure plan en-route when the cloudbase seemed to be on the deck. I’m all for single-engine IFR but like a fighting chance of ‘going visual’ with about 600-1000 ft to go to plan my forced landing.

It's been a while since I did this flight, but the weather at departure was scattered 900'. I don't recall what it was en route, but if I remember it was more of a visibility issue not so much ceilings. I completely agree though, I want to have the highest ceiling available. I really don't fly single engine IFR anymore unless it's in a Cirrus.

It's something that was pretty expensive to fix. It was overly sensitive, so we weren't worried about stalling without knowing it. If you see one of my more recent videos, You will see that it is finally fixed!

Good eye! It is indeed the 696. For its time, it was a great device. We agree though, that the iPad with Foreflight is much better. The 696 has since been removed from the airplane.

Pretty much unfortunately! I don’t typically fly single engine IFR when it it below 1,000 ceilings if I can avoid it. Also, most of my flying now is either in a Cirrus or a Citation, so I feel a whole lot better about that!

Good video. I have a question; Did the 500’ announcement turning base come from the 696, or is there something remote behind the panel?
