Wait…. So you can literally WALK from Alaska / North America to Russia / Asia? That’s fantastic!!! Wouldn’t it be great if we could all get along? 😢 What an amazing opportunity! I bet when there’s no camera on, the people from Уэлен and Wales, AK just meet on one of the Diomede islands and have a party. Wouldn’t that be AWESOME? 🥳

Correct, you can walk to Russia in the winter when the ocean is frozen. Or just drive your snowmobile across. I was tempted. I think the natives get along with others. They were peaceful people when I visited.

Fascinating that there are two retailers (the main grocery store and the little store), as well as a post office, washeteria, health center, city hall, and school in a community of only around 100 people. So great you got to see it all!

Yes, it’s totally safe. You just have to go to the Bering Air website and get a flight from Nome to Diomede. But check about accommodations. It’s basically like a village of 100 people and it’s just a few families living there.

No.It is not a river it is a huge strait with ice cold water. Even when it freeze there is no solid ice field between Chukotka and Alaska.It is moving constantly and if you go without helicopter escort,you are in risk of being adrift in the ocean on an ice chunk. Also keep in mind that Russian side of the shore in almost uninhabited and all of the few its towns and villages are under strict control by border guards.

hi! and how do you actually get to Diomede? can you get there as a tourist? Visiting Alaska and the Bering sea areas has always been a dream for me but I've never felt determined enough to even consider it a "plan". Now I've started feeling curious about the idea again and I have the feeling quite a lot of research must be implied! Any recommendations to start from?
@JaysWorldTravels
@JaysWorldTravels 25 күн бұрын
Nowadays, you need to take a helicopter to get there as the ice runway isn’t available. It’s quite challenging to get there, so you have to do a lot of organizing. The jumpstart point is from Nome, Alaska. I think I’m the only tourist that went there.

Hey bro I'm from Sri Lanka? I just came across a documentary about the Diomede island. So when I started reading it, it was interesting and tempted me to stay there at least for a day. Bro, seriously I am glad I found this video but I have few questions that Is it possible to walk to little Diomede from big Diomede during winter? If yes, is it legal? If it is, what are the procedures to cross from little Diomede to big Diomede? Do you know anything about it?
@JaysWorldTravels
@JaysWorldTravels Жыл бұрын
It’s possible to walk on the ice in winter. It’s 3 miles, so it would take one hour. But it’s another country, so I don’t think it’s legal. Big Diomede is a military island too, so all the locals have been displaced to the mainland. You probably will need permission.
