I flew from Deenethorpe in Northamptonshire Uk up to the Scottish Island of Bute. Pitched my tent next to my aircraft. Walked down to the beach and cooked lamb steak on a meths stove.

Exciting even to watch ! I lived on Bute (1993-2000) and met a man who had just landed his microlight in the field at Ettrick Bay (emergency airfield with wind sock ). He had wanted to travel north from his home at Armadale, near Bathgate, but low cloud made it dangerous, so decided to visit Bute, gaining plenty of height for the crossing of the Clyde. Asked him loads of Qus & Learnt plenty about microlight flying from him. Had a snowmobile engine, 250 mile capacity, 50 mph (no wind), GPS ( Nav & Speed info hence wind direction ), Radio for ATC, kevlar rotors 3x, sleeping bag, etc. Those mountains on Arran have an interesting feature - "The Sleeping Warrior" - Red Indian complete with headdress, lying down, seen at 26:52 Enjoy your travels, ATB from Aberdeenshire.

Trev, I've watched a lot of your videos now and this was another excellent one. It was really good to see you off on another adventure. I hardly ever watch TV; I'd rather give you my licence fee, this is far better. I agree with others here; this is proper escapism from the unfortunate state of things at the moment. You produce extremely good videos, I’m a 17500 hour ATPL with a bad GA habit! Please take this as some well meant advice, practice taking off and landing on QNH. Winding off 1020’ leaves you very vulnerable to an altimeter error when you re-set with the possibility of being too close to terrain, or infringing controlled airspace above you. From day one of my ATPL training 40 years ago we flew only on QNH and I haven’t used a QFE since. At Berrier I usually just fly a 2100’ circuit on QNH and know I’m 1000’ AAL. Please keep up with the videos and please don’t be offended by well meant advice.
@trev.lee.adventure
@trev.lee.adventure Ай бұрын
Hi John. I usualy take off on QNH to be honest. Your proberbly not aware but apart from the anologue altimeter I have two GPS devices running. One showing QNH and the other showing hight above ground. When I was flying in Europe last year on my Arctic expedition up the North Cape of Norway and then circumnavigating the Baltic sea QFE is never given when requesting airfield information in any of the 11 countries we visited. It's good airmanship to be able to deal with any scenario that comes along.

You missed a trick. You should've shown the approach all the way up the Firth of Clyde with its breathtaking views. Great video though.

Ah, the great Scottish midge - a force to be reckoned with! Midge nets are a must - at least keep them off your face and out of your ears! Apparently during the filming of Monarch of the Glen (tv series) the cast & crew complained so much about the midges, they put in massive, and expensive midge traps, and removed over a metric tonne of midges - and yet the cast and crew didn't notice any difference!!!

I couldn't find my net! I don't think the midges were not as bad as i've seen. But I guess you can;t beat them when they in force

Loved this Trev. Camping & flying - awesome!! I fly a paramotor which is fabulous for local and low height exploring but 23-30mph! So your 177 miles in 1.5 hours is bloody impressive. What is the cruising/max speed of your rig - and presumably you had a healthy tailwind? ATB and keep ‘em coming 👍

Hi. I usually cruise at 80mph air speed. I can hold 100 mph straight and level but doing this burns a lot of fuel. (about 24 ltrs per hr) Max speed (VNE) is 120 mph I would only achieve this in a dive

I use the coils to repel mosquitoes etc. the last 12 hours. Super cheap. You light the coils and they burn away. Their smoke repels the flying bufs

So average ground speed of not far short of 100mph by my reckoning. Quite a bit faster than I would have expected for such a machine, impressive. What is the range with a full tank? I like how stable it seems hands off in still air.
