Many moons ago I flew as Captain with Air Zimbabwe. B737 Harare to Nairobi route for awhile. Kili was almost always covered in cloud but one day it was clear and we descended early and did an orbit, actually a figure eight at 21000ft. Passengers were given a special treat and expressed much thanks? Thanks to you guys for igniting memories of that day. Well done you did it! Loving following your trip

You must have given the most hilarious moment to the climbers that day. Particularly those struggling on the steep slopes to the mountain rim, and those heading or already at the summit…..seeing a plane zooming around overhead, and flying past the crator, was undoubtedly an unforgettable moment to the climbers..!! A rare gift.

I'm not a pilot and don't know all the regulations and requirements of pilots flying in unpressurised aircraft at altitude. But I'm sure that the late great Sean Russel when doing the high altitude test in the Sling TSi in the USA, and went to FL270, said that for safety reasons the full O2 mask was required above FL180! Anyway I'm really enjoying your series and the long journey south. Keep up the good work and stay safe, as Africa is not for sissies :)

What an emotional experience, being on the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru! Thank you Bambi and your fellow friend, for sharing this experience. It was amazing to see Mount Kilimanjaro that close, very sad thing though, is the melting of the snow cap.
