I know this video is 3 years old, but I really like how informative it is! I like watching videos like this of people traveling with their Service Dogs! Oakley resting his chin on his toy was so cute! I’ve flown with My Guide Dog 🦮 Zeke, when We were headed home from Guiding Eyes For The Blind’s Guide Dog Training, back in January 2022! 🦮(From New York to My home of Windy City Chicago.) It was also My second flight ✈️ alone, but having Zeke with Me helped out with the stress of everything! Traveling was tiring, but I would do it all again with Zeke! He did really well, just like Oakley!

Love this. I am getting a puppy soon that I plan to train as a psychiatric service dog one she’d old enough. Do you have any advice on maintaining a service dog/family pet balance? How does Oakley know when he isn’t working and can have pets/play? I’d also love resources on the specific legalities surrounding PSDs if you have any advice. I want to do this correctly.

When your dog has her vest on, that means she’s working, make sure you establish that and keep her focused on tasking. When the vest comes off, then it’s time to play and get cuddles and kisses. Remember, you can still love on her while she’s working, but keep it to a minimum( when she tasks correctly) Hope this helps!

If in your videos the most informative when working and traveling with a service dog. No frills and good information. Surprised you don’t ask for pre boarding to settle your dog before others come on. I am taking my first trips this year with my service dog, one being an international flight.

we have smaller dogs so we have a backpack carrier that we put in front with us so they feel kind of like they’re being hugged but also it can go underneath the chair. My dogs are also service dogs so they can walk with us. We just do this with convenience. I say dogs I have one in retirement and one that has just finished training so I do have two other good thing is like you talked about. We don’t make them fast but we do a very low diet warmer military traveling we figure out the food that is easy for traveling and we get them used to that month beforehand so we’re really prepared for that, the problem we had with Delta Airlines they would not allow me to take the dog out of the carrier after when the flight was taking place and it being a service dog I need him near me on my lap or something to tell me if everything is OK, especially in flightit could be a risk if I don’t so I don’t think that airline attendance very ADA policies

Hi I have a question! Do I have to provide paperwork when I fly with my service dog? Or is it optional

It depends on the type of service dog you have. If you have a psychiatric service dog you will need to have paperwork filled out by your doctor and submit it ahead of time (possibly, depending on airline) where as mobility, alert, guide, etc dogs do not have to provide that. I would encourage you to look up the specific airline and their policies. The ADA does NOT apply to service dogs for airlines, travel guidelines fall under the ACAA. It also depends if they enforce the rules or not - I did not have to provide anything but I would not risk it.

If you are in the USA, as of right now, the us department of transportation (which covers airlines) there is paperwork you must fill out to fly, it’s just normal in (vaccines, ect)

@@rachd4786 yeah they do now as the new law they’ve passed cause of all the people who went online and registered they’re animals as fake ESAs. So now us service dog handlers have to have a 48 hour notice and can’t take emergency flights with our service animals, not only that but people with real ESAs are no longer to fly on the plane they now have to be shipped like cargo. People asked what’s it hurting but they just hurt service dog handlers and real ESA handlers

I believe that people who ACTUALLY need bulkhead like service dog handlers and wheelchair users should have it for free! Especially if a dog is massive. As they shouldn’t be tucked more than 3/4s their size.

Check vaccination laws and breed bans internationally to start with. Plan for quarantine periods at every stop, know where dog restrooms are in advanced, and find quiet spots in the airport where your dog can have a chance to decompress. Generally airports know quiet spots, so you can always call or email ahead of time.
