The Multiplex Fun Cub has always been our top pick for any type of back country flying. This is because of its incredibly light weight with low wing cube loading as well as gentle flight characteristics with a predictable feel.
For those curious - our Fun Cub weighs in at 35 oz with a 55in wingspan and a wing area of 589 sq. in. This gives a wing cube loading of 4.2.
Compare that to the Turbo Timber Evolution, which has a 55oz flying weight with a 61” wingspan, and a wing area of 559 sq.in. This gives it a whopping wing cube loading of 7.8 in comparison!
Wing cube loading alone doesn't dictate how well a plane will fly - but it will tell you how floaty or heavy it will feel in flight. Since the FunCub is nearly half the wing loading of a Timber of the same size, it's 1G stall speed is much slower, allowing you to fly in much smaller spaces and also more aggressively without leading to an accelerated stall.

We were saddened when the OG Fun Cub was discontinued - as there will likely never be another mass-produced park flyer STOL plane made equally as light.
However - the Fun Cub NG is now available - and we gave it a shot!
