I made a full comment but, like i said there, this could have been easily fixed. Ball goes out, ref whistles and goes and calls both captains and managers. He then says "This is not usual and is certainly unprecedented but there's been a mixup: Luis Diaz was onside, VAR said to agree because they thought the goal was given. 30 seconds have passed and nothing has happened, I'm going back and giving the goal. I don't want to hear complaints, let's handle this like grown ups: a goal is too big to not push this back 30 seconds and effectively nothing happened. Be serious about this and we are close to half time, for the players who don't understand, explain this to them at half time. I'm sorry, it's a massive fuck up, but let's be serious and, above all, be fair.". Then he gives the goal and play on. After the match he explains exactly what he did and what he said in a post-match press conference and the ref would even be praised for his commitment to fairness and his balls for going against the guidelines and being level-headed

On the U.S. broadcast, Tim Howard had a guess at what happened in the City v Spurs game, and it’s the only thing other than match fixing that makes sense. He said the ref put the whistle to his mouth, played advantage, and because it’s all happening so fast, he blows the whistle just a little bit while giving advantage, so while he means to give advantage, the whistle has gone a bit, so if even one player heard it and stopped, that would have been an issue that Spurs could have been aggrieved about. Idk if that’s how it actually played out, but it makes a bit of sense.

Then literally 2 minutes later, Gillingham tried to take a quick free kick, and the ref stopped us and gave the player who took it a yellow card for kicking the ball away. I said it before, I'll say it again, VAR in itself isn't the problem, it's the people operating it. In the Tottenham vs Liverpool Diaz offside audio, the replay operator says straight after it was onside. If he was in charge of VAR that day the goal gets given. I also still think the worst part is the precedent these bad decisions set, especially if they don't acknowledge and apologise for their mistakes.

Don't even get me started on the Porto - Shaktar Donetsk game in the CL the other day. The first goal from Shaktar was the very definition of offside. Nottingham Forest vs Everton is another one similar to what happened in the man city vs man utd match where a city player is pulled back in the penalty area and the VAR gives a pen however in the forest game, Ryan Yates is clearly been thrown to the floor by the everton defender like a judo throw and the ref said no penalty VAR did a brief check and decided to go with the on field decision no penalty. I have this exact same problem with rugby TMOs - any tackle or contact looks 10x worse in super slo-mo 4K ultra-zoomed-in-o-vision, & especially now that there's a lawsuit being put together against World Rugby from former players relating to concussions & head injuries, even the most minor of high tackles or head contacts are given as yellow or even straight red cards. Literally, players have been sent off because of an attacker running into them & theyve had no time at all to react. Its utterly ridiculous & is genuinely ruining the game.

What I don't get with the Spurs vs Liverpool offside is the process behind it. The message given to the on-pitch referee isn't clear. They just say check complete without saying what the decision is, & the referee assumes they agree with him because they don't clearly correct him. They simply have to change the process of communicating to the referee so that they say the decision. For example, 'Okay [insert referee name here], the decision is offside.'

During the Huddersfield v Watford game in the championship a few weeks back, it’s 0-0. 7 minutes of injury time have been added and as the clock reads 96:42 the ball goes out for a Huddersfield corner. By the time the corner is ready to be took the clock reads 97:03 so the red blows for full time before the corner is took. It’s was an awful call by the red which could have cost Huddersfield the win which they sorely needed

If I remembered correctly, I believe in Bournemouth v Burnley, Burnely thought they have scored a last minute equaliser. VAR checked it and originally gave it as onside. However they checked it again just seconds after the onside decision. And eventually they ruled the goal out as offside

For me, as a liverpool fan too, it's gotta be the 2021/22 season man city vs everton game when Rodri clearly handballed in the penalty area for it not to be given as a pen. If the pen was given and everton had scored it, the game would have resulted in a draw rather than a city win, losing them 2 points as well as the title coz they ended up beating liverpool by only 1 point. Trossard's disallowed goal for offside where the line was drawn halfway down Jesus's foot, when it should have been drawn from the position of the ball. So it was our UCL game this past Tuesday, there was an incident regarding Jakub Kiwior and Gabriel (the defender) that was disallowed stopping us from going 2-0 or 2-1 up (the game eventually ending as 1-1) So a ball is sent in from a free kick, Gabriel hits it(in real time it may seem) and it goes in and it's offside. Which will seem understandable in one of the replay angles(bird's eye I think it's called). But the angle where the camera is next to the goal, you see that Kiwior heads the ball and not Gabriel and Jakub was in fact onside. Now, in the end it My worry is that the refs didn't use all the resources they were given. And what worry does that entail for the knockout stages, if not this season then what about the next
