This is a tough one though cause dlc is so ambiguous. The term means practically nothing. Shadows of the erdtree offers more content than most games do in their whole game. So thats kind of a tough one. Its all very arbitrary but i think if its a whole new map with whole new stories and characters, than its fair game imo. Like im pretty sure witcher 3 expansions ie. Blood and wine won a game award as well back in 2016. This is not a new phenomenon. Some dlc is so w that it becomes more comparable to games than dlc.

If we follow that logic helldivers 2 should be on that list because they just did what they thought would be fun even they didn't expect the game to be so big. @SquilliamTheIIII disagree. I felt barely half the passion in the dlc than they had for the base game. Elden ring itself is an amazing game with a huge map that is full of life (and death) at every turn, new temples and dungeons to explore at every turn and all the while you’re finding new and unique weapons that will help you become more powerful along the way. Grinding if you needed to was a part of the game as well. I didn’t get those feelings with the dlc. No matter how much you grind you didn’t get any more powerful. You were limited to items you had to find around the map which you HAD to beat certain bosses to get the majority of. Took out any reason I had to explore or enjoy the new map as I was instead looking up videos to get those scadutree fragments so I wasn’t beating my head against every boss. The map felt way more empty than in the base game, yes it’s a big map but with not a lot of life in it, not a lot of dungeons or anything to get lost in. And a very underwhelming amount of cool/unique weapons didn’t help either. The only good thing in my opinion were the bosses and even then about half of them were not that good. It doesn’t deserve a goty nomination over helldivers, stellar blade, space marines, ir even black ops 6. All of those games offer more content and are better than shadow of the erdtree in my opinion for those reasons.

Most people think that's a no brainer for best OST, Square have always put alot of time and budget into crafting quality soundtracks for their games. Rise of the Ronin is my personal GOTY. Mostly because it's a rare example of a studio completely jumping the shark but they managed stick the landing. The game is so damn massive when it comes to combat and story, yet Team Ninja managed to make it work in a balanced fashion. Alone in the Dark and Outcast: A New Beginning are up there too. I had so much fun with those games.

From what I recall in his last video, he mentioned he thought it was a bit disappinting (check his vide's closing comments). From a narrative pespective, the lore reveals were god damn amazing if you're keen on the details. So many amazing locations and wealth of new armor/weapons/sorceries. Topped with new Bosses and general amount of new content , it was really good. The final boss was a bit overtuned initially, but I consdier him a Z tier boss (fun wise) now post patch. Regardless, it doesn't really ruin the DLC even if he were broken, so curious why he thinks so.

The only iffy spot is Elden Ring, which was a massive expansion but should've been replaced by Like a Dragon 8. 1. Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth 3. Astro Bot 4. Black Myth: Wukong 5. Balatro 6. Shadow of the Erdtree There's not a single filler game here like Super Mario Bros Wonder, Resident Evil 4(faithful remake unlike FF7), A Plague Tale, Horizon II, Stray, MOST of 2021's lineup, etc. 2024 is the only year with all incredible nominees. I'd go as far to say it's one of, if not the most solid lineup Geoff's game awards have ever had.

The way i look at it is using the the last 3 game of the years and how big those had as a genre intro impact. How many people tried out Hades as their first real rougelike/lite? How many people played Elden Ring as their first ever Souls/soulslike? How many prople played BG3 as their first DnD, true open RPG? Its because of that I think it probably should go to either Hell divers 2 or space marine 2. Co-op shooters have been around for millennia now but just how many were introduced to it for the first real time by these 2 games? They had the greatest cultural impact of the year in my own opinion.
