We are continuing our adventures through the Nordics, alongside trying to see how long we can travel Europe without catching a flight, but I think our luck runs out at the end of this video. We have arrived at the Faroe Islands, a place that has been so high on our bucket list that we cannot wait to show you what we get up to after our 30+ hour Ferry from Denmark to get here, where we see breathtaking waterfalls, incredible scenery and most of all - 60,000 cute little puffins.

Hi, we are Stephen, Jess, Hunter and baby Koa - an Australian family who have had quite the journey. After travelling the world as a couple in 2020 we had our very first baby, we then spent the following year self-converted a van before moving into it full-time to drive around Australia. Cut to 2023 we welcomed our second child Koa into the world before resuming full-time travel around the world.

Last year we went to Svalbard in Norway and then to the Faroe Islands. I was blown away by the Faroes. Incredibly beautiful, clean, sophisticated and elegant. I had no idea. I saw my first blue whale, did ocean SUP, cliff diving, hiking and shopping. We had a weekend seeing the Puffins as well. I have never seen so many waterfalls. So glad you are highlighting this amazing place!!

Although you were saying that you were going to a new country, the Faroe Islands is actually an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The Faroe Islands function as their own country in many respects because they are geographically distant from Denmark-located about 1,300 kilometers away in the North Atlantic-and have their own distinct language, Faroese, which is entirely different from Danish. These factors contribute to their unique cultural identity, setting them apart from Denmark.

@@kunukmuller The Faroe Islands belong to Denmark or they don't. There is no middle ground. The Faroe Islands belong to Denmark!

But to say that visiting the Faroe Islands isn't visiting a new country simply because it's part of a kingdom based elsewhere-come on. I'm not denying their political association with Denmark, but calling the Faroe Islands or Greenland 'Denmark' overlooks their unique cultures, languages, and identities. They may be politically connected, but they are very much distinct places.

@steinarhaugen7617 The Faroe Islands do not belong to Denmark like Denmark owns it, but is a part of the Danish Kingdom, just as Greenland is. Iceland was also part of the Kingdom of Denmark until the end of World War II, but then Iceland decided to be there own country.

I'm sorry - the slaughter in one day of 1400 white sided dolphins, the same beautiful ones we have here on the west coast of Canada, makes it impossible for me to promote the Faroe Islands to anyone. Make sure your children see both sides of the culture there.
@LC-fx2lo
@LC-fx2lo 2 сағат бұрын
Same. I will never look at this place in a positive way because of the way they slaughtered those dolphins. Murdered would be a better word, because they did it in the most inhumane, violent, sadistic way imaginable, and it was purely for sport. Dolphins contain a lot of mercury. They weren’t killing them for food. It was “tradition” and for sport.

Hunter has a poetic mind ... " it is making a spider web" ... " we are floating in a bubble with other people".. Suggestion write down what she says and keep it a book for her all it " hunter's quips or some such thing" ... Always told my friend to do that with her child and she has forgotten over the years the clever things he said as a child ..I remember a lot of them for her but she knew so many more then I did because she was with him 24/7 for 18 years

@@flyingthenest The Kingdom of Denmark consists of Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland. Denmark is Denmark, Faroe Islands is Faroe Islands and Greenland is Greenland. All have own parliaments but Faroe Islands and Greenland have permanent seats in the Danish, not the other way around, from where most foreign policy and military are controlled. When Faroese and Greenlanders need specialist education or specialist healthcare needs met, they can come to Denmark for this where there are special options for staying. When younger are being educated they have prioritised access to housing and even some extra financial benefits in relation to Danes.The Kingdom of Denmark are co founding NATO members while only Denmark are member of EU. A little "fun fact" for interested globetrotters..... Very few nations have just one landfast neighbour and recently it became one less, when Canada, that only had one landfast neighbour (USA) and The Kingdom of Denmark, via Greenland became landfast neighbours, via the small rock island, Hans Ø/Hans Island that were split with 60% to Greenland and 40% to Canada as a tiny part of a huge border agreement between Canada and The Kingdom of Denmark/Greenland. The agreement finalised a border agreement going from the tip of Greenland almost up to the pole. Last 50 years, as the ice have melted, both Canada and Denmark have investigated the seabed as it became possible to determine the most correct border drawing. As the globe heats the waters between Greenland and Canada have less ice and icebreaker travel and enforced ships can now travel the strait almost all year. Eventually this path can become a new "Panama type" strait greatly reducing sea travel distances between continents. 🤯

It's deplorable you going there. They butcher sentinent beings. You need to be more knowledgeable as you travel more.

I dare you to find a country without something problematic in their present or past. If you only travel to places with no controversy you will never travel.

Horrible place where whales and dolphins are butchered in large numbers. I wouldn't go there even if they paid me 🤮
