Unfortunately you do not have to pay taxes on court judgments/settlements or proceeds from legal actions. It's not income. It's considered compensation for a loss. It's not like when you default on a credit card, pay them 10% to settle it and get a 1099 for the remaining balance as income. Doesn't work that way.

From Tabitha's Yelp review. This guy just sold me an $11,400 jeep did not give me a safety inspection sticker instead put a 60 day fail sticker on it only after getting my $11,400 put a temp plate on it and told me to go drive it around because they unplugged battery. Got it home and noticed steering rack broken leaking parts hanging off steering rack, motor needs cam shaft and lifters. He refuses to give me my sticker because his excuse is I didn't bring it back within the 60 days on fail sticker. Jeep was unsafe to drive kept shutting off in traffic from bad fuel filter and bad cam shaft. my daughter lost all steering and crashed into side walk blowing out the tire ( thank his she didn't get hurt or hurt anyone else). Needs $5000 in work. No customer should be lied to and ripped off and told to go drive it around knowing it had bad steering rack. He knew I was buying it for a disabled child to get to his doctors. These people should be shut down and I plan to do everything I can to get his license taken before someone gets hurt from his junk vehicles. Crooks.

It's such a total waste of time and money. I don't understand it. My divorce cost me over $140,000 in attorney's fees and that was 8 years ago and I'm still dealing with bogus motions. It's like her oxygen. She's violated every order in our 72 page divorce judgment and I haven't filed a single motion, just trying to move on. Some ppl just suck. @@steveclark8480 No. This whole video seems like he didn't hire a lawyer, or is lying about the whole thing. One: his lawyer wouldnt of filed a Notice of Reconsideration. You file a Notice of Appeal, this asks a different and higher court to review the case. You can present new information there such as the fact you had an emergency situation and missed the original hearing. Of course a notice of reconsideration was denied: it's the same court he's asking and the fact he missed the hearing meant he defaulted to a loss. This whole video is super suspect. I suspect he's salty he lost, and someone out smarted him. She did not scam you, she went to court and won legally. Saying she scammed is defamation, fyi.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve been sued a few times, and it’s always the same kind of unscrupulous individuals. ???? Not sure what happened to you. Go to appeal court !!! Losing the 1st hearing is no big deal and not uncommon in small claims court. Do not bother asking the 1st judge to reconsider. Appeal the decision of the 1st judge. The judge for the Appeal court must obey statue law. The only way the plaintiff can win is if they have the same power of the District attorney that grants them the power to over ride an the clause "As is".

Craig, you haven’t explained exactly what you were sued for. Was it to reverse the purchase? Was her demand to unwind or cancel the transaction? Wouldn’t that include returning the car to you? Courts typically look to adjudicate cases equitably. Awarding her the car and a full refund doesn’t seem equitable to me.

I’m just trying to get a clear understanding of the facts. Craig mentioned early in the video that he couldn’t understand why the court would award her the $10K she paid for the car and not order the car returned to him. I don’t understand either, which is why I commented. Baring any legal justification to the contrary it seems extremely unfair to award her a full refund without a provision for the return of the vehicle to him.

As a former small business owner who has been hauled into court this is my advice: (1) NEVER REPRESENT YOURSELF (2) Never offer opinion, just facts and be prepared to back it up (3) Never make it personal, which you did (4) Doing a drive by at her place of residence is stalking .... Why did you film her after court date? You could have made your point without doing it. Missing a court date is an automatic admission of guilt. You made just about every mistake you could have and paid the price. Lessons learned can be very costly and this one was.

Craig, this series of videos took me back to one of the worst periods of my life as I went through a divorce from someone just like this Karen. My makeup would not let me roll over to motion after motion after motion for things I knew were wrong but found out, as you have, the court system cares very little about what's morally right. Horrible people like this use our terrible court system to take advantage. Unfortunately my cash outlay was far more than yours before I said enough is enough and gave up. She’s pretty smart too to limit the price of the car to $10k to fit within the limits of small claims court. It’s very easy to file claims in small claims court.

In Ohio, the first thing we do with a small claims case is move to transfer it to the regular docket, which the court is required to grant. That usually takes the wind out of the sails of the pro se litigant. After that, we serve discovery and file motions from there until the plaintiff loses interest in the case. Most of these people don’t want to work for a judgment any more than they want to work for a paycheck.

Ive missed many court dates most of my own fault and not having ish together. This man has a wife, kids business and all that entails. Leniency and understanding should have been granted, giving him another date would seem very reasonable. Also back on those 2 years the nuttiness of the pandemic was just subsiding.

I worked at a large used car dealer where we would buy vehicles from consumers for additional inventory. We appraised a man’s grand Cherokee and after two weeks he decided to sell it to us. We did paperwork and said we would send him a check. When we moved the vehicle it was apparent that now it has major engine knocking. We immediately called him and said we can’t finalize the transaction. He took us to court and won. The judge said “we are the experts it’s our problem”.

She's suing for $10K compensation because the Jeep is a lemon. She's not suing to return the Jeep for a full refund. Because Craig didn't show up or have a representative at court, the judge awarded the $10K to the buyer and she still keeps the Jeep. That's the cost of not showing up to tell your side of the story.

I still don’t know exactly what the prob was with the car. I know once the courts schedule preliminary hearings and one party misses it (as he did) then there’s a default judgement for the asset idk. The relevancy of the car became moot at that point it sounds like…pretty stupid that she signed off on EVERYTHING too. Before the sale they did some work and unplugged the battery which made inspection not possible until a certain milage. She was to get in touch with him in a 90 day period I believe and didn't and took advantage of the situation. This is purely the way I'm seeing it, I very well may be wrong. If that's the case the customer can sign a paper saying she's buying it uninspected but it means nothing. Again, just the way I'm putting the actual issue together. I just don't understand he's so bothered and was checking up on her house, how would you miss court!? There's more to all this, something is missing 🤷‍♂️

I really feel for you 😞 I had a computer shop between 2002 and 2007 and it nearly killed me. Customers abused their positions and it got to the point where to sell a computer basically meant going home with them and moving into their house, such was the support and fire fighting required. I've also sold cars but the only way I could do it was to sell end-of-life broken/ project cars where warranty/come back didn't exist. Love your channel. Stay strong dude!!
