Boy that “full power” power-on stall got my attention - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Garmin attitude indicator display show that much pitch up! How did it feel in the plane? In the 310 I trained in that type of power-on stall would have been a big no-no, we used half throttle and it still felt like you were pointed straight up. I’m also curious about setting power with prop control only, what system is it allows the pilot to do that, some type of electronic or computer engine control? The steep approach looked awesome! Thanks Rich!
@FlyingwithRich2 жыл бұрын
That was very impressive and Rick solid stable. The ECS system handles the loser based on RPMs so MP and fuel automatic from ECS. Very simple. Steep approach was impressive too - don’t know where you would ever need to do that but clearing an obstacle prior to short field landing would be very easy. Thanks for watching.

Have always favored the Caravan, but the Traveler offers the extra safety of having that extra engine. Very nice plane, very solid.
@JaidenJimenez869 ай бұрын
I did a little looking to see how the Traveler stacks up against the Caravan - it seems that although it is not quite as capable in some areas, the operating costs appear vastly lower. That, combined with better safety, a more comfortable interior with better amenities makes me think that this plane could very well steal the Caravan's thunder in at least the commuter sector.

We were just talking about the P2012 last night and this morning!! It all started with the new Cessna Sky Courier. Then the sich w/ Cape Air and the P2012! 8) The Sky Courier is very cool too!! Cape Air is replacing their Cessna 4xx's with the P2012's. We were speculating if they might add some Sky Courier's also. 8) 2- PT6's, very good performance!! I think they were designed for FedEx!? Interesting!! Great ride along, thanks Rich!! 8) --gary
@dieselyeti2 жыл бұрын
I doubt Cape Air would add the new Cessna as it would mean maintaining two types instead of one, which would be more expensive.
@gtr19522 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree. If they did take on any cargo missions, or anything where more capacity was needed, the brand new Sky Courier would be an excellent choice. It's still single pilot certified, has big capacity, built like a tank and PT6's are so common now they are easy to get worked on! Parts are everywhere. It seems a great value! All things to look for when optimizing the bottom line. 8) Peace.. --gary
@FlyingwithRich2 жыл бұрын
Skycourier is basically double the money and 19 seats. For operators who can fill the seats or fill it with boxes it will make a lot sense, but likely a different operator than the P2012. I think you will see Fed Ex phase out the Caravans for Skycouriers over time. We’ll see.

I can’t wrap my head around the market for the P2012. Its a nicely appointed plane but for $2.6mm you can buy a very nice Cessna Caravan and fly it for a year before reaching the acquisition price of a P2012. You will fly a littler faster, have better useful load and have PT6A-114 reliability. An A&P told me Cape Air was having issues with the engines.
@FlyingwithRich2 жыл бұрын
There is a strong component and appeal for redundancy of twin engine. Caravan will burn more block time fuel but fuel costs will be similar due to cheaper jet fuel. High utilization operations will likely have higher engine maintenance costs due to HSI interval and component cycles. We’ll see though - Caravan very tough competition for sure. Thanks for watching.
@blegi12452 жыл бұрын
For the type of flying cape air does(remember this aircraft is custom designed for cape air) caravan is not an option. Multiple short flights in an hour type of operation cycles out turbine engines way before they reach operating hour limit. Now you have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to overhaul an engine that has half of it's nominal tbo left. Piston engines only count hours. There is no cycle limit. They should have bought a turbine aircraft people have no idea what they are talking about. The engine overhaul costs would eat operators like cape air alive.
@DonAv8s2 жыл бұрын
@@blegi1245 I didn’t suggest Cape Air should be flying Caravans. I said Cape Air may be having problems with the engines. Many operators run short hops with aircrafts with PT6 and other turbine engines. There are 135 operators like VeriJet flying short hops in single engine jets like SF50. The fact remains that it’s $2.6 mm for the Tecnam at 150 TAS doesn’t move the needle for me IMO and you don’t have nearly the National support as a Textron aircraft.

Great video, the first on the P2012 that pilots would be interested in. The handling qualities seem perfect for a commuter airline with relatively low time pilots and the engines seem much easier to handle than that on the Chieftain. It will be interesting to see what Tecnam comes up with next. Retractable gear would be nice, as would G3000 avionics with touch screen controllers. I'm curious if Tecnam is investigating a diesel option, something like the Centurian 4.0 V8 engine. This would aircraft would be perfect for an earthrounder trip, but avgas is imposible to find in many parts of the world and if you can find it.....it is expensive. One quetion I have is are the throttle leavers left at the full forward position for most of the flight - if power is regulated by the pitch levers. It would be really nice if Tecnam would also put the POH/AFM on their website so prospective pilots/owners could familiarise themselves with the aircraft.
