You could have a real twin jet for that price.

That's not the point. You aren't going to get a jet off the ground in 900 feet, and you *SURE* aren't going to find a jet with 9 seats in it for that price. You want a jet with equivalent passenger and load capacity, you're looking at paying triple the price of this airplane. I am not a fan of the geared Continentals however - I'd rather have the Lyc 540's of the original P2012 Traveler.

It's designed for rough and unimproved airports. Fixed gear is easier to make lightweight and strong, and also lowers the overall cost of the aircraft. Also lower maintenance costs over the life of the plane.

When they're down and welded, you don't forget them. Note that the fast and slick SR22 has fixed gear.

Retractable landing gear would make the aircraft heavier and would cost much more. This aircraft is best suited to short flights and short, perhaps rough airstrips. The speed benefits from retractable gear are negligible, when pitted against more robust fixed landing gear.
