I'm in the process of converting a 71 BGT with an LS1/t56, but I'm using a BMW e36 chassis IRS and massive amounts of metalwork to make it all fit and appear factory like to even most MG enthusiasts.

Ha ha I started building my GT conversation before you and still not done. Remember watching your videos when you started this journey. I am using fuel injection v8 out of Land Rover. Also watch Binky from beginning love his brackets.

I put a T1 (1.3litre) Toyota engine in an MGBGT. The clearance between the front cross-member and the hood is too small for a 1.3litre engine. We had to modify the engine oil pan for the engine to fit. This was a disaster as the oil pan kept leaking.... which in retrospect actually held true to the original engine that also leaked like a sieve. . . Looking back I wish Nett Gain had their electric conversions available. This car can truly only be 'saved' if you convert it to electric.

Looking at this project - all I can say is wow. Well done. I had NO BUDGET for my project.... and no Miata parts lieing around. The MG has an amazing ergonomic drive: the gear level is high up and makes you feel you are driving a Formula One or Spitfire Aircraft. Can I suggest you mount 2 round spot lights in front, your car will instantly have a classic British Race Car look. Get some roller belts (inertia belts), preferably a bright colour. When the safety belts run from the back mount, it gives a cool look. , I am amazed that you didn't modify the hood, like the MGC (3.5l V8).

For what it's worth, I like the patina. I think that car shouldn't turn heads - it suits the hacked together style of the rest of the car. Very cool!

I was at the Targa NL in '08, as a spectator. It was a bit damp. I was disappointed that the fella from Edmonton didn't show up with his Enzo Ferrari and his wife's McLaren, although they were listed as participants in the early info package. Maybe the Enzo hadn't dried out from his previous submersion...

The Enzo went swimming in 2011. There wasn't a way for supercars to take part before that as far as I know. Fun fact - it was the Flyin' Miata team's tow strap that was attached to the Enzo to keep it from floating away...

do you still have the plans from when you designed the front end/frame stiffener?

It wasn't so much a front end stiffener as a complete replacement of all structural metal in front of the firewall.

Yeah I’m trying to do something very similar with mine. I don’t think I’m ambitious enough to fit an LS in it but I am trying to fit a big v6 and so I want to replace the subframe and stiffen the car at the same time.

I want to replace the steel rims on my 1979 MGB roadster with 14" 5.5 Miata aluminum rims will they fit.

The stock bolt pattern for the MG is 4x5.5" (4x114.3mm), the pattern for the Miata is 4x100mm. They won't fit.

You do realize the MGB has a large amount of vintage sovereign car races well fought races. Quick, dependable fun. Maybe yours isn't capable of a track day. that doesn't mean other MGB's cant.😮

Of course. This car wasn't built for track days, but that doesn't mean an MGB cannot be raced.
