This is a very good step by step video. Well done. Last year I tried to rebuild a rear caliper for my 280zx but I couldn't get the very last mechanical piece out and I had a very hard time trying to get the rubber dust boot over the piston and seated correctly. Great detailed video, thanks,- we're just doing my sons' Honda CRZs rears at the moment. The piston was seized on the left side , but managed to free it with some big waterpump pliers and unscrew it. Not sure if the adjuster is working properly, as it's pretty tight, so might need looking at. Always good to know where all the parts go before you pull something apart (orientation etc).

All right I needed this video! I replaced my rear calipers and pads and bled them properly but I'm not getting any motion from the Pistons back there! E brake does not make them function either
@FlyinMiataVideoАй бұрын
Oh boy! You should have enough pedal pressure with the car off but if not, maybe try with the engine running to get some assist. You might want to go through your bleed process again. If you have pressure out the bleed screw, you should be able to push the pistons with it shut.
@joshuaenyart5570Ай бұрын
I'd never messed with the rear brakes on the car before and at one point in the video you guys mentioned using the rear set screw to set the e-brake does that mean pulling the e-brake and then driving the set screw forward until you can't spin the tires anymore? Does that set the piston distance?@@FlyinMiataVideo
@FlyinMiataVideoАй бұрын
@@joshuaenyart5570 I'll usually set that screw with the hand brake down and tighten the screw until your pads just barely start touching the brake rotor, but you can still easily spin your rotors by hand.

@FlyinMiataVideo Жыл бұрын
Thanks, hopefully they help! For paint you'll definitely want something that is rated for very high-heat. There are also several brands that offer brake caliper specific paints that are made to resist brake dust and heat.

On sport brakes anyway, you will have to reuse your factory bleeder screws. The replacements in the Fren kits are the wrong thread pitch on both front & rear kits! Also no replacement copper washers are included in the kit for the parking brake adj. plug bolts or the banjo bolts.
@FlyinMiataVideo Жыл бұрын
The bleeder screws was a known issue, and that should be fixed on all current kits. If you bought the kit from us, reach out to our customer support team so we can send you the proper bleeder screws that come with the current kit. The copper washers can be reused and don't have to be replaced, They are only helping to keep out dust, not sealing in brake fluid.

That ebrake actuation lever doesn't come out with just removing the spring does it? My lever is sticking, but i'm not trying to go out and rebuild the whole caliper at the moment. That'll be a spring job or winter when i store the car for the salty season.
@FlyinMiataVideo10 ай бұрын
The parking brake lever is held in place by the threaded rod under the piston, so it can't be removed until you've disassembled everything else. Check to see if the sheathes of your cables have any damage - that can allow debris to get inside and bind up the metal cable. You can also disconnect the cable from the caliper and actuate the parking brake arm on the caliper with pliers to see if it's the caliper or the cable that is sticking.

Does that manual threaded rod have anything to do with the parking brake? On my left rear when calling the E brake, the cable moves the parking brake on the caliper, but does not engage, and when I press the brakes that caliper does engage so I want to know if that is an adjustment for it or I need a new caliper

@@FlyinMiataVideo my issue was last time I replaced rear brakes the adjuster wouldn't move the piston. I had to crack the line to get the caliper retracted enough to slide over 1 new pad and the better of the old 2. Does the kit come with a new adjuster, and is it possible to use air pressure to get the piston out and worry about the adjuster and threaded rod after the piston is out?
@FlyinMiataVideo Жыл бұрын
@@kylelambert1672 Unfortunately the kit does not come with a new adjuster and since the adjuster threads into the back of the piston in the rear calipers, air pressure isn't going to work unless you are able to un-thread the adjuster first. Give our customer support team a call or email if you can, they might have some troubleshooting solutions or better answer your questions there.

This caliper is from an NA/NB I believe. I have just dismantled an NC caliper and found it to differ from what's is the video. It has 2 larger circlips (in the piston and cylinder bore), and both have springs under them to compress. I've abandoned trying to refit the one in the bore.
