I appreciate the honesty in saying that the difference isn't noticeable if we already have the previous version. A lot of companies, especially niche market ones like yours, will often try to make the sale any way they can. Its why you're one of the few vendors I feel like I can trust

I don't have my NB anymore, but I remember replacing the original bushings with a Delrin replacement (I thought it was from FM, but not sure). I was astounded at the difference. IMO, this is a no-brainer upgrade for any of the older cars if you haven't done so already. There's almost zero downside, and the benefits compared to the cost are incredible. Thank you FM for reducing the cost on these!

This may be a dumb question but typically when something is made more rigid, the forces that were previously absorbed at the original location are transferred to another location. Would the additional rigidity at the door cause cracking at a different location somewhere else?

I've bought three different brands of bushings, (craven speed, 5x racing, flying Miata) the first one i ruined by sanding it down in the wrong places to try and fix the problem of the door not shutting, the 5x one just sucked and the FM one is what i have ran for over a year now, but i have had a very hard time getting the door to shut right... Yeah yeah yeah i know keep it lose then shut it few times then tighten it but In my experience DON'T sand anywhere but the thickness of the bushing. When i sanded the thickness/height the problem with not being able to shut the door got better but never went away. Don't waste your time sanding the sides or anything else. Only the hight, if that makes sense. If you haven't played around with door bushings for days then I'm probably speaking Chinese to you. Long story short, if you can get them to fit right it's DEFINITELY worth the money, now that they're cheap you better get them or I'll tell your mom

Has FM looked into redesigning the door cup as well? It seems like a more contoured shape on the door side could create an improved interlock over that of the pressed steel cup.

Would you guys consider making a british racing green to match a '91 SE Miata?
@FlyinMiataVideo3 ай бұрын
The problem is that they're molded plastic and not painted metal, so they will always look different as they'll react very differently to light. The closer we get to matching the shade (under specific lighting conditions), the more obvious it is that they don't match. For this reason, we don't recommend trying to perfectly match the bushing to the car color.
@brenteysler56793 ай бұрын
How much of a difference will these make from the ones I brought from you a few months ago?
@FlyinMiataVideo3 ай бұрын
Well, if you choose a different color....that would be the difference😁But really, the material has a higher durometer but I don't think it would be noticeable from the driver's seat.

Brandon, which official Miata Blue color is closest to the blue of the bushing? I have a 1989 Miata California License Plate Blue (a.k.a.Mariner Blue).
@FlyinMiataVideo3 ай бұрын
Hmm, good question. The blue door bushings are our official FM blue so, maybe one of our blue Miata owners can let us know. We're not trying to match any specific Miata color because if it's off some, it'll probably look bad. Well, I guess the black door bushings should match pretty good.

@DominicLeung874 ай бұрын
I have these but any effect these have is probably mostly placebo. Any "bracing" forces these things would have would have to be transmitted via the screw head/washer/bushing interface which is TINY. If we assume the door cups/bushing is a rigid connection AND the screw/doorsill connection is rigid then that only leaves the screw head/bushing interface which is a "connection" which is entirely determined by friction. The clamping pressure of 4 screws on a tiny little area is small enough it might as well be a rounding error. On top of this, even if this was somehow anything resembling a rigid connection (which it isn't) the door bushing/door cup connection point is so low that it provides very little mechanical advantage on bending moments in the frame/chassis.
@FlyinMiataVideo3 ай бұрын
Nobody expects door bushings to make a night and day difference to chassis stiffness, but there is usually a tangible, not placebo, improvement. If you want to see it in real time, try flexing a closed Miata door around with the stock rubber bushings, then with something stiffer. There's noticeably less movement.
@DominicLeung873 ай бұрын
@@FlyinMiataVideo Yeah, it's not like you guys are claiming this is god's gift to men which is good. It might also be because I have an ND which is much stiffer than an NA/NB where I really can imagine these contributing to rigidity in a noticeable way. I guess the results in the NC/ND and NA/NB would be markedly different.
@FlyinMiataVideo3 ай бұрын
@@DominicLeung87 Agreed, you'll probably notice the upgrade less on the later cars.
@dgris79443 ай бұрын
I'm not making any claims on stiffness but replacing rubber bushings with delrin on my '99 substantially reduced NVH. It made less of a difference on my '04 MSM, however that's a stiffer car from the factory.
@PilotScott-ey7lw3 ай бұрын
The connection is low, but remember it’s one of 4. Top hinge, bottom hinge, latch, and cup/bushing interface. Those other 3 are pretty solid, so anything you can do to stiffen the fourth is a good thing.

The previous bushings made my car rattle so bad I removed them.
@FlyinMiataVideo3 ай бұрын
If you were getting rattling, that's probably because the bushings were too loose inside the door cup. It also illustrates how much the door was moving relative to the opening, which is exactly why those bushings can help make the car more rigid. Please contact our customer service team to help troubleshoot your install.
@tomhunter913 ай бұрын
It was installed right but the rattling was from internal door parts I didn't feel like finding and replacing.
