I do 1 or 2 loads of laundry Monday through Thursday every week. I home school and do the paperwork for our family business Monday through Thursday as well. I'm finding a little each day suits me much better than doing it all one day a week. I'm trying to incorporate exercise into my routine the same way, 15 to 30 minutes every day instead of an hour 4 days a week.

I have 3 kids and I’m still learning. I just let me house cleaner/helper go and I’m so so soooooo thankful for everything I’m learning with FlyLady! God bless you ❤️

I just found you today and I've watched 3 videos in a row! I LOVE YOU!!! So this tutorial should be shared with every teenager b/c parents are no longer teaching their kids basic home economic chores; and it's not being offered in schools anymore either. I'm an old skool mom who taught chores to my kids early on. My daughter thanked me when she left for college and started to make money on the side washing her roommate's clothes. Her roommate didn't even know how to start a washing machine. So thank you for your efforts in making these videos; I will be sharing them. Love the tip on how you use a brush to clean your dryer lint try - brilliant! BTW I have an old skool washer too and my fabric softener dispenser is at the top of the agitator ;-)

We have a Speed Queen washing machine that I tell how much water to fill and I can open the lid to toss in an item of clothing that I forgot. I do about 3 loads of laundry a day for one person and a dog. I send out my husband’s laundry for washing, folding and dry cleaning. He is construction and his clothes are heavy and dirty. It saves in the wear and tear of the washing machine. My girlfriend told me about this service. Her three children went to private school and she always sent out all the children’s clothing as well as her husbands. This is very helpful as we know there are other items that need to be washed: sheets, coverlets, towels, napkins, tablecloths, dish rags and such. The price was reasonable we’re we live. Maybe it will be the same for you.

Oh....clean folded clothes right back in the dirty pile! That brought back memories (nightmares). And you followed that up with such compassion for the "culprits" who put the clean things in the laundry pile. Sweet.

Oooo, my husband hates it when pants or shirts are turned inside out. He says the dirt is on the outside, so how can they get clean if they are turned inside out. When you talked about the jeans, it made me think about this. Sorry, had to share that tid bit.

I would faint if my laundry looked like that. LOL... I do a lean method. My husband clothes, My Clothes, Whites, Sheets towels. When I fold it takes me less than 5 to 10 minutes to fold and put away. Each of my kids has a specific day to do laundry. MOM does no more clothes for them. One load a day keeps the piles away. :)

Ohh..... Dear Flylady Kat 🌼 I am so set free from punishing myself and berating any worth out of myself ! Such an amazing feeling to come to know that I am not the only person on the globe who persistently owns the horror of 'Mount Washmore'. I try to understand why the laundry has such total mastery over me , I think because the basement was so horrible I never wanted to go downstairs. Anyway .... Now I deal with apt. laundryroom..... and as I see the mountain of laundry reaching half way up the wall, I feel so appreciative for 'this' video !!!! I will keep going back to it ,while I continue to over come my mountain of clothes and laundry blockade. 🙅😊💙🌸🌼

I'm new to your channel from Kimmy, and have been taking quite a few notes from your videos. One thing I use to do with jeans as a kid was hand wash them in a bucket in cold water. Which would pull out the most ink. Later on in life I learned from my mother in law that vinegar sets colors in clothes. So I use that whenever I have a new shirt or pants or just a yard of fabric. There are also color grabber sheets but I've never tried them. The only time I don't use vinegar is with bamboo fiber, I use to cloth diaper my son and its so strong that it weakens the fabric. A chemical reaction happens between the cotton bamboo and the vinegar that it actually fizzes and fluffs. I don't use softener, as that builds up in clothing as I learned with cloth diapers it causes repelling issues, so they need to be stripped in order to work properly. I loved my cloth diaper routine, especially when I could put clothing out on the line to dry. I'm from Minnesota, so that time is rather limited. Thanks for all the tips!

I hate doing the washing (laundry) because I don't own a dryer (I live in Australia) so I have to lug the washing out to the clothesline outside to hang it out. It's horrible, especially on a hot day. But it is a great feeling to have it all done in the evening. :)

Hi Kat. Thought id gove you an update on my mount washmore. I finally got fed up and i knew that quite a bit of clothing got damaged by mould. So ive grabbed a roll of trash bags and started tossing mouldy items into bags. So far, i have 4, 56 litre ( around 15 gallons) trashbags almost ready to burst with more to bag up. And im not even halfway thru the pile yet. I estimate i will end up wih 10 to 12 trashbags full. I wont have much left but its my fault it got that way. I also have a speed queen dryer that will be installed as a reward once its all done!! Yay!!

I like your videos, thanks for making them. I just want to respectfully say that I use a natural detergent, and woolly dryer balls, because when you use those other products, they pollute the environment, and they release a lot of chemicals in your house. I like to use natural stuff. Luckily there are more and more nice natural products out there. I also found a natural dishwasher detergent and toilet bowl cleaner. I also do larger loads cause I have a large washer and this saves energy and water.

I do washings differently. I do it by owner of the clothes, and then I break it down by material weight. So my laundry, I do socks, undies, T-shirt’s, undershirts, bras and pjs in a load. Jeans and sweats in another load. Hubby gets socks, undies, work t shirts in a load. Jeans and sweats in another. Nice polo type shirts and sweaters in another load. My 2 toddler boys: everything together since they share a room. My daughters clothes get separated like mine. Everyone has a day assigned to them so it’s not so bad. Black clothes and super delicates are the only items I will pull out from each persons laundry and combine to make a big load of each. I do this routine mainly bc I don’t want to sort each persons clothes back out after drying. And I can’t stand the thought of my husbands socks and underwear being washed with my blouses, it bothers me. Also, jeans are stiff and over time will make stress holes from rubbing against the other items in the wash in things of lighter material like t shirts.

I don’t sort by color. Lights and darks get washed together in cold. I don’t wear bras so I don’t have to worry about those. Towels get washed in hot. Pods are wasteful. I use liquid at about half the amount recommended on the bottle. A Maytag technician told me that detergent manufacturers overstate the amount to use in order to make you buy more product. I don’t use fabric softener at all. It makes my clothes feel oily. GEAUX TIGERS!

Marty Watson yes! I have 3 elementary boys and started finding folded clean clothes, buildabear clothes, swim trunks in winter, etc. Finally, I told them for each piece of clothing I find that shouldn't be in there, they lose 15 minutes of game time (they have 1 hr/day on weekdays). After a week of losing game I started seeing less. Now it's been months with no problems :)

Hi flylady Kat. Im a mother of 9 children. And i have the mt washmore to beat all mt washmores! Its winter here at the moment and i have no dryer at the moment. 😱😱 so everything is line dried and depending on the weather can take days to dry. In the meantime, my kiddos keep running out of clothes. So when i seperate mt washmore into more doable piles, do i prioritise the most urgent items? Underwear, jackets etc. Or just do each pile as it comes?

Hi Kat! I have a question for you. When you use liquid laundry detergent, do you put the liquid in before you put your clothes in the washer or after? Also, if you put the detergent in before your clothes, do you let some water fill up the washer before adding your clothes or just add your clothes right to it before there is water in the machine?

Flylady Kat I was raised by a perfectionist mother (gotta love her ☺) who would come behind me after I did my chores and say "I guess if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." She would proceed to re-do everything I had done. I definitely learned not to bother because I didn't know how to do it "right." I'm learning that getting the job done is much more important than doing it perfectly. Thank you for helping me see the light. I love your personality. So glad I found you!
