So great to see a "Our Kite Life" video again, I hope the removal of the hardware in your foot went well and that you're able to get out there with full movement. Looking to replace my Soul 12m v1 with either Sonic 12m v4 or the Soul 12m v3, just when I think I've made the choice someone makes a good review of the other kite. Take care

Here's a question, not soul specific but for foil kites in general. What is the slowest windspeed that you can ride a twin tip with a foil kite? I foil board anyway in light wind but I'm just curious, like if you supersized the foil kite, say used a 23m VMG, could you twin tip in superlight wind like 6kt or so? I do about 20kt on a windy day with a tt and an LEI so that's a lot of apparent wind potential being generated, not only foil boards can generate apparent wind right. My biggest foil kite is only a 12m sonic 4 so it's hard to test myself but I though you guys might have tried test the limits since you and your locals there all seem to love your foil kites, and it looks like you have plenty of quite light wind days. I guess I'm trying to find another reason to justify buying another, bigger, sonic haha.

great video. i was wondering, could you make a video about jumping with a foil kite and twintip? i have trouble timing because its different from a LEI kite.

I own several Soul 1, rode the Soul 2 and was able to test the Soul 3 for 8 hours in total. Honestly, all three Soul versions are great kites and I don't agree that the S3 is a totally different kite. I found the S3, in fact, so similar overall that I decided against it and picked up a brand new replacement Soul 1 for peanuts. To each their own.
@OurKiteLife2 ай бұрын
We did back-to-back comparisons with the Soul2 and Soul3 in the same wind/conditions, and that’s how we came to the conclusion that they are different kites. That being said, definitely agree that all versions of the Soul are great kites.

I like your channel and its great to see new content again. But almost only foil kite unexperienced riders are interviewed for this Kite. How is that conclusive? I guess everyone that has experience riding foil kite’s before was not very impressed with that kite..?!
@OurKiteLife2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I’d actually argue that it’s pretty balanced re: kiters with foil kite experience/own foil kites (4) to not (3). In past reviews we focused mostly on riders who love and own foil kites - which is arguably much more biased. We found it to be pretty interesting that even when mixing it up in this video that the end result was still quite positive for the Soul 3.

Hey Mike i'm one of the riders in the vid trying the soul3. I have limited usage on a 6m soul 2 for foiling. 12-20 knots. Im not a racer by any but look to go fast. Im using a wave foil and have flysurfer peaks and LEIs and recently acquired a 8-10m soul 2. The main reason for me to lean towards the soul in my area would be when wind picks up i can jump on a tt and have a blast which isnt a choice with peaks. The soul drifts decent and rips upwind. It will fly in lighter winds than an LEI arguably. Also the down stroke spike to get flying is bigger than a peak and maybe a fraction longer than a lei due to slower turning. Still experimenting but enjoying the journey. I think foil kites lean towards speed and jumping and maybe travel. Where as peak its all about the downwind journey and LEI leans to freestyle quicker turning tricks. Whats isnt clear for me yet is the absolute low wind . In 7 knots if you drop all three styles you may be swimming. Hope this helps🙏
@mikemiller774Ай бұрын
@@supericeman2222 Looks like reasonable choices. Considering jumping on TT, why not the Sonic4 at all?
@supericeman2222Ай бұрын
@@mikemiller774 honestly I was quite nervous at first with foil kites in general and not popular in my spots. The more high aspect the trickier to fly I'd expect. If you looking to woosky then yes higher aspect will do the job. Im looking for more all around. Not sure what direction my foiling will take me at the moment. Currently learning to jump on foil and find the speed potential of my current set up. I fly in tight spaces as well so a narrower kite is easier.
@supericeman2222Ай бұрын
@@mikemiller774 yes with tt if you never plan to do loops or any other tricks that require a fast turing kite you could go that route. For me its just being able to grab a tt after foiling and be able to have fun.
@jyk42 ай бұрын
Aspect ratio is lowered a lot.. They made the kite more beginner friendly and for LEI people = more boring to me. Higher aspect ratio would have given better upwind performance and better in high winds and higher jumps.
@arminharich37792 ай бұрын
Benni the Designer used VMG tech to increase performance with even with lower Aspect Ratio. If you love higher AR, use the Sonic.
@cortex4ever2 ай бұрын
Just get the Sonic4, that will fit your needs perfectly then.
@jyk42 ай бұрын
@@cortex4ever sonic would be good but I have heard it is less durable - built lighter and bridles are thinner and prone to wear out more easily
@cortex4ever2 ай бұрын
Although the Soul3 might be just a tad more durable… the Sonic4 is also sturdy. It will probably outlive most of your other gear. And a snagged bridle that breaks is easy to replace if that happens. I use Sonic4’s both for hydro foiling (mainly with a raceboard) and boosting with a twintip. Try them, think you’ll like it.

not sure about it , looks like Flysurfer went step back to thicker , puffier and low aspect , kites agian. SOUL 2 was a step into right direction to make ultra thin and aerodynamic fast turning kite. Soul3 looks fat and ugly looks more like OZONE kite from 1995 :) , it turns faster because it is shorter for the same size as soul2 . that is my opinion. I did not fly soul kites before.
