Opponents couldn't believe how powerful he was even as a kid, they had to check his gloves to see if he had something inside. Even Omar Narvaez's trainer couldn't believe how he got beaten down so bad, he got the officials to check his gloves after the fight but everything checked out. Inoue said himself it isn't just his power because others punch punching bags harder than him, but it's his speed, timing and accuracy as well. Also his footwork to put him in position to land those power shots.

19 year old Ameteur Naoya Inoue was knocking down professional boxers (such as 26 year old Ryoichi Taguchi) in sparring matches. The earliest footage of Naoya Inoue knocking out opponent out was when he was 12 years of age (1:43)

@@Ty-v6v-c4rYeah, Taguchi questioned himself if he wanted to continue boxing after that spar and wanted payback in the pros. Inoue beat Japan's no.1 contender Kohei Kono in his 3rd pro fight, then Taguchi accepted Inoue's challenge for his Japanese title or even requested it. First time Inoue went the distance in a 10 rounder. He said his head was still ringing for 2 weeks after that fight. Lol.

Yeah he was still fairly unknown before he entered the wbss. That certainly helped his profile on the world stage. But looking back you can truly see how talented and good he was. Yeah I feel he’s a more complete fighter now, he can do almost everything.

Recently I read a book about the monster. When Japanese boxers made this significant decision to fight Inoue, their wives cried and begged like “please! You can fight anybody else but please,,, please don’t fight Inoue-kun! You got a family. You can’t die!”. It’s crazy to realize how determined they were to step into the ring against the monster, but it’s the warrior’s spirit that they can’t duck the opportunity to challenge the strongest on the planet.

44:42 Man, that is some NASTY accuracy. The first shot to the temple rung his opponent's bell, but the finishing blow landed RIGHT at the base of the jaw on the neck, making it impossible for his opponent to roll with the punch and take some stink off of it. It looked like a quick arm punch, but the dude's brain absorbed ALL of it while compromised by the initial punch.

It's a brave person who'd bet against Inoue, but in Sam Goodman he fights a different kind of fighter. Goodman also has been boxing since he was a toddler, he's young, aggressive and has great speed and footwork; a similar style to Inoue's. I'll still bet on the Monster to win, but it's going to be a lot closer than most think.

I wonder what it must be like to be Takumi Inoue, Naoya's brother. For all intents and purposes, Takumi is also an exceptional, world class, championship caliber fighter, and he has the titles to prove it. But he's still worlds away from his P4P all time great of a brother. In another universe, Takumi would be the pride of any Japanese family. But alas, this is not that universe. Also, a friendly reminder that Naoya is pronounced nah-oh-ya.

If you show very casual boxing fans clips of Inoue, they can tell right way he hits harder than anybody they have ever seen ho wasn’t twice his size. The footwork to get his hips and legs into all his shots just blows people’s heads off. He needs some roots of fight gear, the merch of him out there is gaudy.
